can you call me when you get a chance?
Audio | Route | 10/24
[... Huh.]
[Well, as he requested, Heather calls him up later in the evening.]
Hey, Cliff.
Got your message.
What's up?

[ There's a bit of a pause- he's not really sure how to ask this. ]
You and Ironhide are pretty close, right?
Audio | Route | 10/24
We're close.
[She doesn't have to ponder that much before answering-- as shaky as she's gotten with a few of her other friends lately, one thing she's never really had to doubt is her friendship with Ironhide.]
... Let me guess... is this about that whole thing where you went on a date and he got all mad about it?

What actually happened?

The thing is, I tried to apologize- it was stupid, and Ironhide's my friend. I shouldn't have ditched him, I get it- but he wouldn't... really talk to me. For a while there, I thought we were okay, but apparently it just got worse, and nothing I've tried works.
Now he's left- moved on to the next town. Without me.
I was hoping you could maybe talk to him, but if you've already tried...

[So Ironhide's anger seems as unreasonable to her as her own father's always had, back when she was in high school and desperately wanting to carve out some independence.]
[That next part, though, THAT comes as a shock.]
... He left? Are you serious?
[Wow. She hadn't realized it was... you know. That bad.]
I didn't know he was gonna do THAT when we talked.

[ A sigh. He suddenly sounds... tired. ] I'm at my wit's end, Heather. I don't know what to do.

[Instead, she huffs out a sympathetic sigh.]
That old man can be such a baby sometimes...
Look, he's comin' to see me at some point soon... I'll try and talk to him then or something. He can't stay mad forever.

S'what friends do.
... 'Sides, if anyone can knock some sense into that grumpy old coot, it's me, right?
[... She says this like she's capable of knocking ANYTHING into him.]
