"Yo, it's Heather. I'm probably asleep or Godzilla ate my 'Gear or something so I can't answer you right now. But feel free to leave a message or something. I'll probably get back to you. ... Probably. Peace out."

[She might be a little stiff, but it had been cozy and comforting and you know what, her dreams had been peaceful. That is not something she gets to say about most nights.]
You?
[She doesn't want to immediately address the elephant in the room, but it's obvious she's thinking about it just as much as he is.]
no subject
[He'd slept fairly peacefully too. It's really amazing, just what being next to someone can do. Even now, as nervous as he is, feeling her breathing next to him dampens it some.]
Yeah.
[His mouth quirks in a small but genuine grin, some of his nerves showing through.]
It was nice.
[Being close, waking up next to her. And THEY HAVE TO START THIS TOPIC OFF SOMEHOW.]
no subject
[Because if she'd succeeded in bottling it all up and the conversation hadn't wound up going in the direction it had... she'd be waking up in her sleeping bag right now. Or maybe on the couch. Neither of those were bad things, but she'd still have been... well, alone.]
Yeah. It was.
[But they can't avoid it forever.]
... So... how are we gonna treat this? ... Do we just... I mean. Announce it?
no subject
Go downstairs and be like, hey everyone! Guess what, we're dating now!
[Saying it plainly and out loud makes his stomach do something interesting. But not in a bad way.]
[...on the other hand, even as a joke, that plan is kind of terrifying. How would they all even react? He's fairly sure he's kept this well hidden, and Heather has too. And it's a hell of a change in house dynamics to happen seemingly overnight.]
...maybe not exactly like that.
no subject
Well, hey, we could.
Get it outta the way quick, I guess.
[But breaking the news that abruptly feels... risky, somehow.]
[And they both HAD hidden it well. She hadn't breathed a word to anybody about the way her feelings for Envy had changed tracks a little bit, and she'd gone out of her way to make sure she hadn't behaved any differently around him.]
... And like... we don't even know how this is gonna go.
Like... not to be a total wet blanket, or anything, but... what if we wind up driving each other crazy or like... I don't know, having a huge fight, or something? Do we want everybody else to know about it?
I mean... look what happened with Lust and Scar.
The whole house like... imploded.
no subject
Everyone was miserable. For months.
Maybe it WOULD be easier if we just...didn't tell anyone. Just for now, until we know it'll work.
Then if it doesn't, we can just go back to how things were and nobody will act weird about it.
[ELABORATE SECRETS: ALWAYS THE ANSWER.]
no subject
[And they're thinking the same thing, by and large. Heather isn't so much worried that they'll hurt each other, or somehow destroy their friendship. Not right now. They've already know each others' closets are full of skeletons and they've had their confrontations.]
[But GOOD FUCKING GOD does she not want a shitstorm to erupt around them like the one they'd all kicked up over Lust's 'breakup'.]
You're-- you know, I think you're right.
Like a-- a test run.
no subject
[A shitstorm is the LAST thing he wants to happen, especially since they'd probably be fine themselves. Mostly. Not enough to warrant everyone around them throwing more of a fit than they'd be.]
[...besides, now that he's thinking about it.]
And...y'know, it might be fun, trying to keep everyone from finding out. We're sneaky enough to pull it off.
no subject
[A little nerve-wracking, maybe.]
[But what's the risk, really? Somehow the possibility of someone figuring out they're together and... what, being briefly weirded out? Seems far less undesirable than telling everyone up-front and then having to self-consciously measure every action with each other for fear of messing up and inevitably having to let them all know about that, too.]
[Her signature crooked grin pops across her face and she reaches over to dramatically stroke Envy's cheek.]
A forbidden love.
no subject
No one must discover us.
[His eyes are lit up and mouth quirked with held-back laughter. Yeah, this could both make things easier and be fun. A little more tricky, in ways, but...probably worth it. On impulse, he moves one hand up to brush a strand of hair behind her ear. It's just as goofily dramatic as his other motion, but also he just kind of wanted to.]
no subject
[She's not nearly as good at holding back laughter as he is, and she cracks pretty much as soon as she looks him in the eye. The stroke on his cheek turns into a playful pinch as she laughs.]
I can't believe we're actually doing this.
no subject
[He tries to shake his head lightly away from the pinch, but he's chuckling some himself. What can he say, it's contagious.]
It's...gonna take some getting used to. But you said it yourself, we'll be okay, right?
And besides, we are masters of stealth. This is clearly appropriate for the two of us.
[He can't really do a dumb pose while they're lying down and under the covers, but it's there in spirit.]
no subject
Yeah, we'll be all right no matter what.
[She'd make sure of THAT.]
no subject
Yeah.
[He hesitates, then leans in closer to kiss her, more confident by the time he gets there. It's not quite pressing, but he doesn't pull away either, putting his own hand up to her cheek.]
no subject
[But this is more intimate, by default.]
[And just doing it makes her a little nervous-- as does returning the kiss. But it's nice. It's real nice. God, is it nice.]
[Eyes sliding shut, she lets this one linger longer than the chaste few they'd shared last night. Even if it's still tentative, it's lazy and warm, just like they are right now.]
