[She'd never been particularly fond of Scar either, even after the disaster from last summer had more or less resolved itself. But Lust had been devastated then and she's undoubtedly even more devastated now. Just thinking about it puts knots in Heather's stomach.]
... You're right, she can't. Shit.
[Slowly, she sits down on the edge of the bed, biting her lip in thought.]
[They can definitely carry on as they have, but... well, it won't be a game anymore. And she's not sure how she actually feels about that.]
[Even if all the sneaking had been partially her idea (and a thrill, to be honest), now the thought of being found out carries guilt with it.]
no subject
Hey, are you okay?
[It was pretty sudden news, and a sudden shift in the not-so-much-of-a-game-anymore. And he knows her well enough by now to know that she bites her lip when she's thinking real hard about something.]
[And it would be a lie to say that now that he's slowed down from the initial first rush to let her know, he's starting to realize that he doesn't know what to think either.]
no subject
It's just like... wow, you know? We've just been playing around with the whole 'secret lovers' thing and now it's like...
[She thumps her chest slightly, mimicking driving a knife in.]
Pow. Right in the guilt.
[Because they'd all seen how Lust completely fell apart last summer. There had admittedly been more sensitive matters behind it than just the standard Sudden Disappearance (tm) that they're all used to by now, but it's still not easy. Never easy. And Lust is Lust.]
no subject
[He's definitely worried about Lust, and he knows she'd react badly to the very sudden news that he and Heather are together. Maybe if they hadn't kept it a secret in the first place, if she'd already known about it...but there's no changing that now.]
[And honestly, even if she HAD already known, it would have been a good idea to keep things on the down low for a while.]
But...it wouldn't be forever. Just until she's had some time.
no subject
[She grimaces and crosses her arms.]
It feels like we're doing something wrong and like... we're not.
[A pause. Because great. Here comes the irrational thinking that made it so hard to have gotten this far in the first place. She turns to look at Envy, brows peaked.]
We're not, right?
no subject
[There's no hesitation. Envy's had his fair share of irrational thinking about this very thing, but when it comes down to it? Nothing about their relationship so far has felt wrong, even if some of it has come with guilt attached.]
[He reaches one arm to wrap around her shoulders, tugging her closer in a sort of hug.]
no subject
[That's why she'd let it happen.]
[But oh, god, emotions are stupid.]
[She leans into the hug, puffing out a sigh.]
Yeah... yeah, you're right.
Sorry.
This is still so new, you know?
no subject
[He's been in a committed relationship before, obviously, but being with France for so long and then switching over to being with someone who until this crush started was his best friend and nothing more than that...]
[It's new for them, and very different.]
And...
[He pauses here, struggling with actually saying what he means.]
People have been leaving. A lot of them.
[He stops short of saying that it's scaring him, but it is. It's scary and rattling and the fact that this new issue in particular is coming straight out of that is making it probably more worrying than it should be.]
no subject
[Because it's scaring her, too.]
[Three of their little group in just a couple of months. Even if it hadn't been any of the people who'd been solid presences in her life for years on end, that's still a lot. And it hearkens back to that time she'd lost half her friends in one fell swoop, bang bang bang. Rise, Kaito. Miles and Ken not long after that.]
[
And Claudia.][Her stomach clenches, and she finds herself reaching to take Envy's hand.]
[She's just gonna come out and say it.]
If Johto even thinks about taking you away...
no subject
I think that big giraffe-thing would be too scared of you to. It knows you'd go find it and beat it up.
no subject
[In hindsight, it made sense. She hadn't exactly been grateful for all that Johto had given.]
[But if there was any reassurance to be found over the ones who came and left, it wasn't going to be with the Poke-god. Llama Jesus doesn't want any of their shit.]
... You know, not too long after Greed got here, he told me he didn't know what he'd do if any of us went away.
Kind of a sappy thing to say for Greed, but all I could think about was-- was just how innocent it was. People who've been here as long as us don't say things like that anymore.
.... And even back then, I think I knew that I was gonna outlast him, too.
no subject
No...no, we don't. We know better by now.
We've outlasted too many people not to.
[Families, friends, a lover in his case...as good as it is living here, it's a place that makes people used to moving on. He falls quiet for a good long moment, just holding tight onto her, and knowing that eventually it might well come down to which of the two of them was going to be the one who outlasted the other.]
But...hah, maybe if Johto did take me? If I remembered when I left, if I could do it...the last thing I remember from my world was yanking open a portal between worlds with my bare hands. And that...that was just for my shitty, bastard dad. Think what I'd do for here. For you.
Maybe it's just as dumb a thing to say as Greed, but...I'd give it a shot anyway.
no subject
[Of course it's dumb. But it's also incredibly touching.]
[She snakes her arms around him to properly return the hug, mumbling--]
You know, I think that's the nicest thing anybody's ever said to me.
no subject
Well...just don't tell anyone about me being nice, okay?
[He turns back, even if he does still look a little flustered, to press a kiss to the corner of her mouth instead of continuing to talk.]
no subject
We'll see.
[The touch of his lips on hers is the only excuse she needs to stop talking for a minute and return the favor. It's a far more somber kiss than the ones they've shared thus far, which have mostly been sneaky and playful. But it's just as heartfelt. Probably more.]
no subject
[And maybe it's because of that, the worries dredged to the surface and the reminder that they probably don't have forever, that the usual hesitancies and unsureness suddenly seem a lot less important. So instead of leaving the kiss as the sort of entirely chaste kind they've gotten more used to, on impulse he tilts his face at a better angle against hers and lets his lips part open, lightly flicking his tongue out against hers to coax her to do the same.]
no subject
[If the moment had been lighter, she'd have jokingly brought up the spin-the-bottle fiasco, but she doesn't feel like doing any kidding around.]
no subject
[It hasn't been nearly as long for him as it has been for her, he's at least confident that he knows what to do with his tongue. He lets her poke into his mouth more than he tries to go into hers, all his movements light and exploratory and almost still cautious. He tastes like the chocolate bar he'd had earlier and faintly like toothpaste mint. He wants to know what she tastes like too, wants to know all he can about her before it might be too late.]
no subject
[Chocolate and mint is one hell of an upgrade. With a faint noise of approval, she leans into the kiss harder, her own motions going from tentative to eager.]
[Her own lips aren't quite as sweet-- she'd been eating an orange earlier, and the tartness still lingers. But orange and chocolate aren't a bad combination, either.]
no subject
[This isn't weird at all, the way he'd sort of worried it might be, and more of his hesitation evaporates. What was he so worried about before? This is nice.]
[His arm that had been around her shoulders moves, hand sliding up the back of her neck so that he can bury his fingers in the hair on the back of her head.]
no subject
[She goes on kissing, moving slowly from one corner of his mouth to the other, and lets her own hands slip down just slightly from where they'd been resting on his back. Even though they're both caught up in the moment, there's still a tentativeness to the motion, and then they finally find a place to rest at his waist, she keeps them just barely there, enough to be felt but not quite to hold.]
[In doing so, she draws back from the kiss just enough to make eye contact.]
[Can I do that?]
no subject
[He opens his eyes when she pulls back, and maybe he could have made some sort of sultry face or smirked--with anyone else he probably would have--but instead his eyes are just a little widened, his mouth still parted open. The question she's asking is clear, even without words.]
[And if the little nod he gives her isn't indication enough that her having her hands there is just fine with him, then his own free hand moving down to rest over one of hers and gently press it against his hip ought to be. Now he gives her a little open-mouthed smile, breathing out a half-laugh and letting his eyes drop halfway closed as he leans in to keep kissing her.]
no subject
no subject
[He doesn't pull back suddenly or anything, but he does pull back, his lip sticking on hers for a moment as he pulls away. The hand in her hair untangles itself to move back down to her other shoulder, and he grins crookedly. His face is a little flushed.]
That was...good.
[Better than nice.]
no subject
[It's the middle of the day and Henry's right downstairs.]
[She grins back, just as lopsidedly, and reaches up to rub the back of her neck with a shy laugh in her throat.]
... Yeah.
[Because it was.]
