[But if anyone missed the sound of yet another ranty teenager on the 'Gear network, well, today their wishes and hopes will be realized.]

[A crackle of interference precedes her voice, and in the background there's the steady rumble of a Steelix making headway on a dirt path.]}

Totally fell off the face of the planet for a bit there.

Anyway, for those who care, Goldenrod just came into sight over the hill, so Dad and I'll be strolling into town within a couple hours, probably.

I'll be lookin' for a few of you as soon as we get checked in and stuff-- you guys know who you are. _{[She's lookin' at you, Kaito. Dinner plans aside, she still needs to give him that hug.]}

And uh-- Snake, you still in the hotel? I'll heal Solid up at the Center first if you want me to, but otherwise, I'm sure he'll be glad to see his Trainer. Sorry the trip wound up takin' so long.

[Void the Sneasel makes something of a face when the video flips on the other end. (Is she jealous her trainer is talking to a girl? It's not like Vanitas would notice, anyway.) Shrugging idly, he's walking and doing some traveling of his own, it seems, on his end. His Pokemon is perched on his shoulder, and is messing part of his hair up with a claw carefully threading through it.]

This isn't how it naturally wants to go, but I prefer it this way.

_{[Well, if it helps any, Void, at least the girl he's talking to looks more boyish than some of the GUYS around?]}

Hey, far's I'm concerned, people can wear their hair however the hell they want it.

[The corner of his mouth quirks up just slightly.] It's not something I care much about either. I'm just sick of being mistaken for someone else.

[Yeah, she knows your lookalike, Vanitas. What now.]}

I mean a runt. [It doesn't bother him that much, though the name alone makes his nose scrunch with a sour look in his eye.]

The runt happens to be my friend.

_{[She doesn't exactly sound pissed-off, not yet. And her expression is surprisingly neutral. But there's a certain note in her voice. One that says 'You wanna keep going down this line? I don't think you want to go here with me.']}

[Lifting his head a touch, that sour look is expanding more onto his face now... but he says nothing.]

_{[Heather just stares back evenly. Vanitas might notice that there is ... actually something distinctly eerie in her gaze when she looks at someone like this.]}

Stay away from him and we're cool.

_{[It's a pretty civil offer, all things considered. After all... she's had some good conversations with this guy, and while she knows he's dangerous, she's not entirely sure he's evil. ... But that's not gonna stop her from looking out for her little bro. She remembers last time.]}

[That makes his upper lip absolutely curl. It isn't the look, though he is somewhat surprised a normal person is pulling it, it's the words.]

I'm staying away because he's out of reach at the moment. [I'm not wasting my time hunting him down when I know where he comes back to.]

_{[The stare becomes a grin-- an absolutely wolfish grin. It's one she wears often-- one that the people who've known her awhile have come to expect out of her. Part of it's just plain old playful and admittedly, that's the reason she usually wears it. ... But there's also just the barest (but constant) hint of a suggestion that it might become a bite.]}

That's a fair enough reason.

_{[She pauses for a second, considering something.]}

[His own expression is taking on the features of a pissed cat, his tone bringing a hiss into his voice. Vanitas may be feeling cranky over this, but that wolfish grin of hers? Is making his mouth curl up into an angry sort of smile, somewhat...

Who knows. He certainly isn't taking the time to figure it out.]

_{[It's incredible how quickly Heather's conversations can go from neutral to aggressive. And the funny thing? Her opinions... haven't actually changed much. It's just that Vanitas is getting mad, and is therefore... not just hitting her 'Troll harder' button, but pounding on it. With his face.]}

[He's laughing all over again, but it's got a less amused, more HA tone to it.] I doubt it.

Whenever someone says to leave him alone, it always makes me want to kick him more. If he can't even fight for himself and has to have others say 'leave him alone' all the time? What good is he.

_{[She beckons a little bit, as though inviting him to lean in closer to the 'Gear's screen, like she's about to share a secret. And accordingly, her voice is lowered.]}

He could kick your butt six ways from here till Sunday and I'd still stomp you into the ground because you picked a fight with somebody I like havin' around in one piece.

_{[... well, no, that's hyperbole. If Sora sent Vanitas skulking back into the underbrush like a lion-bitten hyena, Heather probably wouldn't do anything. But it sure SOUNDS good.]}
