74. [Text/Action for Club H] Backdated to Monday
[Oh, man. Oh man, oh man, oh man.]
[It had taken an entire year.]
[For a couple months past 365 days, Heather's life had been blessedly free of something she'd always known was possible but had never seriously considered would happen. Lulled into a false sense of security by her general good luck regarding which people from her own world showed up here, she supposed.]
[All decent folks. No cultists. No creepers.]
[... Until now.]
[It takes her a bit to decide exactly what she's going to do about it. She can't just sit there, after all. She has to tell some people. ... Not everybody. That would be stupid, and attract unwanted attention. Not to mention, he'd probably just find it funny. No, she'll just... tell a few.]
[Some people who already knew a little about... that place. She'd already GOTTEN a message from L, which meant that she wasn't the only person paying attention. But she's not so sure about the rest of her friends. So without any further ado...]
[... There. That'll do for starters...]
[Shutting the 'Gear, she sets it down on the bed for the moment. Now to take care of the OTHER thing.]
Hey, Dad? Henry?

Hey
If you've got a free moment, I gotta talk to you. It's important.
[... There. That'll do for starters...]
[Shutting the 'Gear, she sets it down on the bed for the moment. Now to take care of the OTHER thing.]
Hey, Dad? Henry?
text.
No.
[She's not going to go into the fact that he'd found it fun to fuck around with her brain, or the fact that at one point, he'd been planning to kill her.]
But that doesn't make him safe.
text.
It changes whether Ken and I have to refrain ourselves from confronting him.
[ Assuring? Of course we are. ]
text.
... Miles, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that either of you should be 'confronting' him.
I love that you guys care but I don't need protection from a couple of eleven-year-olds.
text.
I won't go near a man that you warn me is dangerous, after what happened in October.
But for future reference, I don't really approve of people mistreating those I care for.
text.
That's fine, kiddo. I'm not saying you should approve. I'm just reminding you that I'm tough enough to fight my own battles, all right?
I'm only telling you about this because I don't want you to get wrapped up in old problems from my world.
text.
... We're all in the same world now, Heather. If something happens to you, you can't stop us.
We'll be careful.
text.
I'm not your mom so I can't tell you what to do.
But I've got a lot of people watching my back who know what they're doing.
[Liquid, Ironhide, her father... just to name a few.]
You guys? I just want you to keep safe. That is LITERALLY the best thing you can do for me.
text.
... Ken knows what he's doing.
[ Probably. ]But I promise. We won't do anything stupid.
text.
I know. You guys are tough kids. I don't care. Keep safe, and don't worry about me. I've got like three or four grown men who are willing to pound the head in of anyone who looks at me wrong, and that's if -I- don't do it first.
text.
We'll be safe... I'm sure if he does anything to us, Pess would be willing to bite.
text.
Good.
I don't think he'll do anything to you.
But be careful anyway.
text.
Yes, well, I tend to meddle. You too. Be careful.
text.
Don't meddle in my stuff until you're tall enough to stop me from hanging you upside-down until you say 'Uncle', kiddo.
'Cause I'll do it.
[She wants to end this on a light note, and for Heather, 'light note' means teasing. 'Cause he's her little bro.]
text.
Did you know that hanging upside down for too long is dangerous? It could hurt your brain.
[ Light as a feather. ]
text.
Bah, if I could spend all the time -I- spend upside-down and still turn out fine, you probably can too
text.
...w
[ That's where backspacing failed. He was almost going to snark, but decided it was too rude. 8| ]
If you say so.
text.
I do say so.
[SHE KNOWS HE WAS TOTALLY ABOUT TO SNARK but that's okay.]
text.
I apologize I don't have your supernatural ability not to hurt your brain.
text.
I'd be gentle.
text.
You? Gentle? When pulling a prank?
text.
I know, I know.
Try not to faint.
text.
... Vincent, right?
We'll be careful.
text.
That's the name.
["Don't forget it, okay?" ... Well, she hadn't forgotten it, all right...]]
text.
He said not to forget it.
I'll remember.
text.
Heh, he still uses that old line, huh...
Forget his name if you want-- just remember what I told you.
