Massive Character Survey
This is that infamously-huge character survey, for educational purposes.
I tried my best to answer questions taking both Silent Hill canon and the events/development that has happened in Route 29 into consideration!
This will be subject to editing in the future, in all likelihood.
WARNING: THIS SURVEY CONTAINSLIBERAL ASTRONOMICAL AMOUNTS OF HEADCANON. All of my headcanon draws from canon or supplemental canon in some way, but I figure I should probably mention my overactively-headcanony imagination ahead of time so that nobody reads this and goes "BUH?! WHERE IN CANON DOES IT SAY HER FATHER LIKED TO READ TO HER EVERY NIGHT?! I MUST LOCATE THIS DETAIL IN THE GAME IMMEDIATELY" because you're not gonna find it. :(
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Lanky and athletic, but not too tall. She's about 5'3" by rough estimate, so she's a bit of a shrimp in comparison to most of the people she hangs out with. She's got that scrawny, stringbean look of a classic tomboy-- lightweight and speedy, but with a certain stockiness to her as well. She might be twiggy and short, but there's nothing fragile or delicate about her build. Even if she's not super muscular, what she does have is tough and sturdy.
Also, she could basically stab somebody to death with her elbow. Heather is all angles.
2. How old is she?
In canon, Heather just turned seventeen. But taking the time she's spent in Johto (plus the year post-SH3 canonpoint that she was taken from), she's about nineteen.
3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
Under most circumstances, Heather carries herself straight-backed and with an air of confidence. She does, however, slouch a lot when she's tired, feeling unwell, in a bad mood, or just flat-out bored. In other words, a typical teen.
4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Even before she came to Johto, Heather was always in pretty good shape for a city-slicker. She had a very active childhood (climbing trees, jack-knifing off of her bike regularly, and lots of sporty activities, even if it was sometimes just running around the backyard kicking a soccer ball by herself) and was kickin' ass on the track team in high school. She's been a fast runner all her life and she's got a lot of youthful exuberance that keeps her active and bopping around on a regular basis.
Johto-wise, it goes without saying that a physically-demanding place like the world of Pokemon would turn even a couch potato into a reasonably-fit person, so Heather is pretty much in her prime from the constant hiking. As of right now, she has no Pokemon large enough (or... not-on-fire enough) to ride, so the most efficient way of getting from place to place is on her own two feet.
She has no illnesses or disabilities.
5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
In general, Heather is a graceful mover. She's not immune to getting tripped up or losing her balance, but overall she's not a clumsy person (unlike her dad lol). A lot of the time she moves swiftly, aggressively, and with a jaunty spring in her step. Her physical demeanor more or less screams 'COME AT ME BRO' on a good day.
If she's cautious or wary, a lot of that energy is toned down and manifests as tension rather than the usual bounciness.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
Oh boy. TL;DR time!
Whether or not Heather is considered pretty really tends to be a matter of taste. On one hand, quite a few people tend to think she's pure jailbait, but on the other, she's not attractive in a totally conventional way. She definitely has a certain appeal, but it's pretty subtle. Being in her late teens, she's still sort of teetering in that awkward gray area between childhood and adulthood, trying to wrap her mind around what the hell it actually means to be a grownup-- and her appearance reflects that.
She's no shy uguu~ schoolgirl (god, no) but there's still something very kiddish about her appearance and demeanor. Similarly, she's also got a foot on each side of the line between masculine and feminine (Team Silent even mentions that this was on purpose-- originally she was supposed to be even MORE boyish. The alternate costumes available to her in the game reflect this), so she's sort of straddling the fence on all fronts.
She turns her nose up at makeup despite having a fairly crappy complexion, her clothes tend to be cute but not particularly flattering (ie: tend to make her look even more boobless than she already is) and she's just generally scruffy and boyish in every aspect. Pretty much all Heather would have to do to pass herself off as a dude is put some pants on.
Long story short, she's very much not a typical airbrushed video-game babe and never will be-- but in all honesty she's a quite attractive person in her own somewhat-wild, unconventional way.
But on the OTHER hand, ICly, Heather actually avoids looking at herself in the mirror whenever possible. Mirrors creep her out, and she even comments a couple times in-game about how when she looks at her reflection, it feels like it's not her staring back at herself, but some kind of frightening imposter. It's not a fear so intense that she'll freak every time she catches her reflection in a shiny object or something, but it she has to stay for awhile in a room with a mirror in it, she'll turn it to face the other way or even cover it up with a blanket.
Most of this eisoptrophobia has more to do with her ~*~~*~ backstory than anything else, but over time it also took a bit of a toll on her self-image. When you start to associate seeing your own image with sensations of dread and disgust, it starts affecting your perception-- and when combined with the over-sexualized portrayal of 'ideal' women in media that gets shoved in the faces of EVERY girl in her age-group, ultimately it all resulted in Heather developing a pretty awful self-image.
It's not something she particularly stresses out over, considering that she's quite confident and happy with most other aspects of herself, but it's hard to get away from all the same. She knows the whole idea of girls not being pretty unless they're boobalicious and pouty-lipped is total crap, but between the "ew" surrounding her own looks as well as the memories of the cruel bullying she suffered as Alessa both at school and at home, it's engrained deeply enough that it just sort of stays with her.
Under normal circumstances, though, she doesn't really let it get to her, outside of occasionally getting flustered when people draw attention to features she particularly hates (ex: her freckles. Hate with a capital 'H'.). So what if she's not much of a looker? It's not like it's the end of the world. Even if she's a little down on herself sometimes, she's got confidence oozing out of her ears in everything else, so it pretty much balances out. She tends to hide that particular insecurity by acting like a bad stand-up comedian and mocking it openly (if you're already laughing at yourself, it won't hurt if other people laugh at you, right?). This can be a good or a bad thing, really-- on one hand, it keeps her from getting too down in the dumps, but on the other, she's got no clue how to take a physical compliment. This can lead to some awkward situations where her reaction to being sincerely told she's pretty is to guffaw like it's the punchline to a joke and go "HAH! Good one!" And then possibly slap the compliment-giver on the back or something.
A few people in Johto have already discovered this about her. Depending on how willing they are to put up with her bullshit, reactions tend to vary between amused and frustrated. TAKE THE GODDAMN COMPLIMENT AUUURRRGHG.JB.HS;LGDLGJ.
7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
SO MANY FRECKLES Her skin is quite blemished and sometimes looks a little sunburnt, especially on her shoulders (the consequence of refusing to wear sleeves 75% of the year). She's long since gotten over any particularly bad acne by this point, but she's got a lot of zit scars because she's impatient and never left them alone when she had them. Also, thanks to spending so much time exposed to the elements in Johto, her freckles have been multiplying like rabbits. WHY GOD.
In terms of scars, she doesn't have any overly prominent ones. That said, if anyone ever happened to see her in a state of undress, they'd likely notice evidence of a lot of old wounds scattered around her body-- some bigger than others. All somewhat faded, and nothing particularly hideous, but still noticeable. There's probably a few small, faint ones visible on her arms and stomach when she's wearing her tank tops in warm weather.
That said, the most noticeable (and most recent) would be the ugly, mottled white scar tissue that stretches across her knuckles on both hands. It's all healed now, but whatever caused it had to have been painful...
8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
She's a bottle-blonde, and has been ever since a fairly young age. She (or more accurately her father, at least for the first few years) started dyeing it when she was around five, as a safety precaution when her father took her into hiding to escape the cult. She's been doing it ever since, even when the need to remain hidden because more or less obsolete. When asked if she was going to let her hair go back to its natural color (a deep, silky black), she replied "I dunno, dontcha think blondes have more fun?"
As for style, she keeps it cut in a scruffy, flyaway fashion that's sort of all over the place. She's the kind of person who prefers a haircut that she can just run her fingers through in the morning and be done with. She doesn't care much about keeping it neat and on any given day, it's full of visible split-ends.
In Johto, her black roots often show prominently thanks to the fact that unless she's actually in a town, she can't exactly walk down the street to pick up a box of hair dye.
9. What color are her eyes?
Hazel, although they lean more to the brown side than the green. In fact, they often appear amber or orange-ish depending on the light.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
One prominent feature is the fact that she almost always appears overtired (or like she's been crying), with deep, puffy rings under her eyes. This is largely because she's a teenager and by default never gets anywhere near the amount of sleep she should.
11. What are her chief tension centers?
Midriff and head.
You know those nasty cramps that are only supposed to happen once a month? Yeah, those just... kind of happen whenever she's stressing out, logic be damned. This has largely to do with her crippling fear of babies and everything related to babies-- thanks to Silent Hill, more or less anything having to do with the miracle of human life is horrifying to Heather. By this point, her body pretty much reacts to stress by going "Whoa, hey, what's wrong? SHIT WE HAVE ACHESTBURSTER BABY IN US AGAIN DON'T WE" and ramping the cramp-meter up to Spinal Tap Eleven. It's all just her totally psyching herself out, but that doesn't make it any more enjoyable when big-time stress hits and she just wants to go curl up in, ironically, the fetal position.
She doesn't usually do that, of course, but it's not unusual to find her hunched over a cup of hot chocolate on a particularly bad day with her face on the table and her arms wrapped around her stomach.
Other than that, she also tends to get very nasty, throbbing headaches when she's stressed.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Heather lives for casual clothes. Her wardrobe consists mainly of well-worn jeans, a skirt or two, a colorful array of tank-tops, various spongey wrist-cuffs, winter-wear that will never see the light of day until it's officially too cold for her to run around in her usual sleeveless glory, and of course her signature puffy vest.
Despite her appearance-related woes, she's not actually too self-conscious when left to her own devies. She does like cute things, and she's perfectly comfortable in miniskirts and midriff-baring tops. That said, for the most part her dress is fairly modest and she doesn't care for stuff that's too flaunty.
And, as stated before, she is deathly allergic to sleeves and will fight winter tooth and nail before she'll give in and start wearing a coat like a normal human being.
In Johto, given the amount of hiking and roughing-it that everytone is expected to do, Heather's use of the beloved miniskirts has become increasingly rare. In the end, she's always been someone who chooses practicality over style (she wouldn'tve been caught DEAD fighting monsters in a skirt that tiny if she hadn't had more pressing issues than finding the time to change into a pair of pants) and let's face it: jeans are just better when you're in a world that involves trekking through long grass, climbing mountains, and spelunking just to reach civilization. So skirt-wearing is more or less out unless she's parked in a town somewhere and not hitting the road for a bit.
13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
She's all about the comfort, yo. All her clothes are comfy and seem to fit her fine. She rarely wears anything that's too big or too small for her-- unless she's just stolen something ridiculously huge from one of her friends (she has a surprising number of buddies who are built like brick walls) and is running around in it for the sake of being a brat.
14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
Ever since she was old enough to get hired somewhere, Heather has been working various odd jobs, some of which required a uniform and some of which didn't. It goes without saying that wherever she can get away with it, Heather will likely dress the same way she normally does. Nothing in her regular wardrobe is particularly impractical so it's not usually a problem.
But if it's a job that requires a uniform, obviously she's going to suck it up and wear it, even if it's something stupid*.
Noteworthy examples in Johto include the ugly pink scrubs that Pokemon Center temp-workers are supposed to wear, the embarrassingly-cutesy uniform she had to don for her job in the Goldenrod Department Store, and the old-fashioned waitress dress required at her job in a diner in Ecruteak City.
*NOTABLE EXCEPTION: Heather would die before putting on one of those sickeningly-cute Pokemon costumes at the popular cosplay cafes scattered throughout the region. She is quite literally avoiding those places like the plague.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
To Heather, the word 'panties' evokes images of sweaty fat guys in dark basements, backlit by computer screens with Japanese cartoon porn on the desktop-- and as such she will NEVER use it, even if she does wear your average girly underpants most of the time. That said, her ideal sleep-wear is a baggy T-shirt and boxer shorts. She is supar sophisticated.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Heather sounds, for the most part, like a totally average teenage girl. She's pretty high-pitched, although her voice often cracks or goes hoarse/squeaky when she's scared/confused/.
2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
Under normal circumstances, Heather can be loud and brash, and usually speaks easily-- with a lot of confidence. She does hesitate in tense situations though, and for good reason. When her mouth runs unchecked, it tends to get her into trouble.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Did I hear you say 'like, you know'?
Heather's got a very typical American accent-- she pretty much talks like you'd expect a teenage girl to talk. She's not really an airhead, but if you just had to go from a total first impression, it'd be easy to assume she was one. She's a spunky kid and that's reflected a lot in her word-choice and tone. Never one to go for the dry and cut-out, she often spices up her commentary with a lot of extraneous detail and exclamations. Finding a particularly powerful healing item that'd get a boring ol' "It restores a lot of health" from most of her fellow Silent Hill protagonists will instead get an enthusiastic "That's the stuff!" from Heather.
She's got something to say about almost everything, whether it's a personal anecdote or a sarcastic remark.
Her mouth can be a little faster than her brain sometimes, so she's a chronic abuser of trailed-off sentence fragments when she realizes she has no idea where that point was going.
Also, Buffyspeak. Lots of Buffyspeak.
4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
Fluently, only English. She probably knows bits and pieces of Spanish just from growing up in the city and working in places where it was spoken frequently, but nothing extensive.
5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Unless you count going into Ultra Foul-Mouthed Sailor Mode when she's really pissed, no.
6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
Heather's not big on planned speeches. She speaks from the heart, for better or for worse. She's not completely thoughtless, but it's safe to say that she does a lot of talking on the fly.
7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Well, she's no Shakespeare, but she's not a mumbling idiot, either. She's fairly eloquent in her own way and doesn't normally have much trouble articulating what she wants to communicate even if her mouth gets ahead of her sometimes. She can also be incredibly blunt, sometimes hurtfully so.
Situations that might flabbergast her into stammering are usually touchy ones where the fear/potential consequences of messing something up far outweigh any other factors at play. Usually she gets through things like that steadfastly, but onn occasion if they're personal enough and carry a lot of emotions behind them, she can get tongue-tied.
... And also, if someone busts through her clowny facade of cheerful self-deprecation, fluster usually ensues. 404 ERROR: CANNOT MAKE JOKE.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
At first glance, it would seem that Heather's streetsmarts outweigh her booksmarts, and while that's more or less true, she's actually got quite a bit of both under her belt.
While Heather didn't do fantastically in school (more due to poor behavior than grades-- she had the potential to be an A-/B+ student, but frequently skipped classes and acted out. Never exactly endeared herself to the teachers very much), her father, being an author, was an intelligent and frankly rather geeky man. He highly valued education and great literature. Needless to say, he passed that on to his daughter as best as he could. Heather is a kid who grew up being read to every night, and eventually reading voraciously on her own once she grew out of bedtime stories. The self-reading probably trailed off a bit once she hit her teens and started getting into some distinctly less-admirable hobbies, but she never lost her love of books and was probably one of those rare examples of a kid who actually enjoyed most of the stuff on her high-school English curriculum.
... Even if she bitched and moaned about it constantly, because lol what is liking your schoolwork. Lord of the Flies? More like BORED of the Flies, amirite? She's not the sort of person who would ever refer to herself as a nerd, but her mouth betrays her on a regular basis, since she can rarely resist the opportunity to make dorky lit references when the situation calls for it. Among the many generally-snarky quips she makes in-game, she also quotes Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe.
Additionally, it appears that Heather was intelligent and fairly bookish even before she came into Harry's care. As Alessa, she often escaped into books as a coping method, even reading stuff that would be considered bizarrely advanced for a little seven-year-old. Canonically, it's stated that one of Alessa's favorite books was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World.
On the other end of the academic spectrum, her penchant for being able to improvise solutions to problems and puzzled on the fly with ~*~~*~ would suggest that she's no dummy when it comes to science, either. Even if pouring bleach and detergent together in an open bucket to make emergency insecticide is kind of... um... reckless.
AS FOR STREET-SMARTS... this is where Heather really shines. She's got this shit in spades. Tough and independent, she's got no problem with bending rules if she has to, and tends to know her way around the rougher sides of life like the back of her own hand. She isn't someone who considers herself encumbered by a lot of the normal restrictions that people allow to hinder them, and as such can often think of and execute solutions that most people would be too unsure to try themselves. When being pursued by a weird, middle-aged stalkery dude, her method of ditching the creeper is to simply duck into the ladies' room, force a window open, and crawl through it to the back-alley outside without batting an eyelid. ("OK, weird trenchcoat dude, I'll be right back... LOL J/K!!!!")
Even while her father was alive, Heather was used to getting around on her own and blazing a trail for herself. She's adept at improvising ways in and out of places (unlike most well-behaved people, she doesn't waffle about what she should or shouldn't do. If a place is technically off-limits but she needs or wants to get in, she will find a way.), and she's also got a pretty decent knack for using tools and machinery. It would probably be fair to say that among the various jobs she took on throughout her teenage years, she spent some time at an autoshop or mechanic's office and picked up a few tricks there.
Another very telling attribute she possesses is an almost startling lack of hesitation when it comes to weapons. Although she never had to use it before Silent Hill, she carried a switchblade on her person at all times (yes, apparently even at school), stating that she liked how it felt to carry it around. As for firearms although she wasn't overly fond of them before she needed them (she even refers to receiving a shotgun wrapped up like a birthday present as "gross", although that could have been a commentary on the intention behind the gift more than the gift itelf), she is far more capable with them than most teenage girls would even think of being. She wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between a Remington and a Winchester, but she can sure as hell fire both and she'll do it if you give her a reason to, punk!
Whether she picked up this knowledge from the disreputable company she kept as a younger teen or if Harry himself taught her the basics as a means of self-defense (which is very likely, considering that Harry himself was very pro-firearms and strongly believed in the importance of possessing them as a defense against criminals) is left unstated. It may be that her knowledge came from both. Either way, she was confident enough with their operation to snatch up a handgun and use it in a pinch without even thinking, and any initial discomfort with them pretty much disappeared over the course of her misadventures in the Otherworld.
Needless to say, she knows how to take care of herself and that in order to stay alive, sometimes you have to think outside of the box. In Johto, this is no different apart from the fact that she's not allowed to carry weapons. Boooo, Johto. BOOOOO.
TL;DR HEATHER'S A SMART, WELL-ROUNDED KID. She doesn't always act like one, but she is!
2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
Heather is notorious for being a huge hothead. Deliberation isn't something she does a whole lot of before acting in a tough situation, so while she probably knows that she should slow down and think her actions out a little more often, it's more likely that she'll just... plunge in headfirst. She's a pretty quick thinker, so things usually turn out okay, BUT it has gotten her into deep shit on more than one occasion. Luckily, she's usually swift of mind (or, when that fails, fleet of foot) enough to get herself back out of it again.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
She is very intuitive. She trusts her gut to get her through things-- logic won't always get you far in Silent Hill, where 'reality' is something to be sniggered derisively at and flicked out the window like a booger. In some ways this is (or was, anyway-- all powers in Johto are gone) enhanced by her minor precognitive abilities, which were a faint carryover from the telepathic powers she once possessed during her life as Alessa. But in the end, it mostly comes down to pure instinct.
On the other end of the scale, she is very practical. Her beliefs are mostly down-to-earth and realistic-- even cynical. As happy-go-lucky and sunny as she often is, she holds very few illusions about how life works. She's seen some seriously dark shit and the loss of innocence that ensued is something she really mourns. Quite often she wishes she could be as naiive and bright-eyed as she once was, and this is part of why she puts so much effort into making up for the lost parts of her childhood. It's also part of why she's so protective of the younger friends she's made. While she emerged from her own ordeals still able to smile and find joy in the world despite it all, not everyone is that lucky and she doesn't want anyone to lose that entirely. Hence why, even though there's a side of her that's incredibly bitter, she spends so much time either indulging in or encouraging the act of just being a kid and enjoying life. Even if you're a grownup. Even if you're old.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
She's had a typical American K-12 education. she sort of fell out of the game after high school, though-- even though she knows her father would have wanted her to go on to college. Her rather horrific return to Silent Hill occurred at the tail-end of her high school career, forcing her to endure her senior year with ALL OF THAT hanging over her head. As though her past history of delinquency didn't make it hard enough for her to make a strong comeback (something she'd been trying to do before Silent Hill abruptly re-entered her life), the loss of her father and subsequent lack of support figures in her life made it very hard and she was tempted to drop out several times. With all that in mind, college just didn't seem like something she could cope with that soon.
But despite the legitimacy of her reluctance, it's still something she feels pretty guilty about, and often worried that her father would have been disappointed in her. Naturally, he corrected that belief once he arrived in Johto and they were able to discuss everything that had happened after his death.
Likewise, Johto has also somewhat alleviated the general academic guilt just because there appears to be no formal opportunities for education whatsoever (or at least none that are blatantly pressed on you by society)-- you learn everything for yourself. This type of hands-on approach is what Heather is best at, so she adapted to the Trainer lifestyle pretty quickly.
5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
KICKIN' ASS!
... But aside from that, Heather's not really an enormous expert at anything. She's more of a good jack of all trades in several areas, without being overly awesome at any of them (except, perhaps, killing monsters. It's safe to say she's better at that than most people).
One thing she'd been doing before Silent Hill and has since devoted herself a little more to is the art of free-running, or parkour. That is to say, the art of getting from one place to another in the quickest, most efficient way possible. Sounds boring, right? Well, except when you consider that it usually involves flipping gravity the bird and literally going OVER as many obstacles in your way as possible.
Like this guy (Yeah, she can totally do that.) Or this guy. (That's a bit harder, but in a pinch she could definitely pull that off.) Or THIS guy. (... she can't do that yet.)
She got a crash course in it through pure trial-by-fire, seeing as when eldritch abominations hungry for your flesh are after you, you either find a way to get your ass out of there in any way possible or wind up being monster-food. Since then? She's discovered a bit of a passion for it.
6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
In stark contrast to her past self, Heather is extroverted by nature. She's loud (sometimes obnoxiously so), and has no trouble making herself heard if she wants to be. Easygoing and a bit of a social butterfly, she gathers acquaintances easily and often comes off as extremely sociable, even 'cool' to most other people.
That said, her experiences have turned her into a cunningly-concealed introvert. She was raised by a protective (and justifiably paranoid) parent, and grew up without allowing herself to be extremely close to other people. Constant moving-around ensured that even the few GOOD friends she made rarely amounted to more than casual acquaintanes. Not to mention, after the showdown in Silent Hill when she was seventeen, Heather found herself having a lot of difficulty relating to the remaining, often-superficial friendships she may have had with schoolmates. Brainlessly hanging out at the mall and gossiping seems a lot less fulfilling after you've braved hellish otherworlds and saved the world from destruction. Not to mention, when your best (and only) real friend is a depressed, alchoholic middle-aged detective, it's easy to get rusty when it comes to opening up to people.
The reason this isn't readily apparent is because Heather is pretty much the queen of bluffing. Because she IS genuinely frank and open about herself a fair amount of the time, she's very good at making people think she's telling them more about herself than she actually is, and her apparent bluntness and honesty, while not really a lie, is definitely a little misleading. She's got a lot to hide, but she's good at seeming like she doesn't.
... Well, within reason. Since coming to Johto, there's been a lot more people caring enough to look at her closely than she's used to-- which is when the bluffing starts to get a little transparent. Once that happens, she either needs to 'fess up and really open up to people, or drop all pretenses and just get cold and cautious. Unfortunately, she can and often does revert to the latter.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
She... is not even-tempered. At all. Heather's a bit of a spitfire by nature, and the fact that she's got some deep-rooted anger issues doesn't help. While she's quite chill and easygoing when she's happy, it takes very little to ignite her temper and she snaps at people easily (sometimes even when she knows they don't deserve it, or if it's actually herself that she's angry at). Even if she's done a lot of growing-up over the past couple years, she's still the very picture of a moody teenager sometimes.
8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
It really depends on what the situation is. More often than not, she plunges into new things headfirst! REGRETS: 0. But when it comes to things she's a little more unsure about, it can really go two ways. On one hand, even when uncomfortable, she often puts on a big show of being confident and fearless and 'I GOT THIS, GUYS' (see the bit above about being a BLUFFING QUEEN), but other times she really prefers to hang back and get the lay of the land before doing anything. Living most of her life in hiding drilled suspicion and wariness into her head, so no matter how go-get-'em an attitude she has about a new situation, she's usually a little more cautious uner the surface than she lets on.
For somebody so outwardly loud, she's actually pretty good at disappearing into the background and fading out of a situation if it occurs to her that she'd be better off somewhere else.
That said, in Johto, everything is new and everyone starts out as a stranger, so Heather's a little more mellow in that respect. It's a fresh start. Even the enemies from her past who have popped up haven't posed a huge threat thus far, so she has far less to be afraid of than she did back home.
9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
Under most circumstances, Heather's usually one to act. ... For better or for worse.
10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
Heather is a fighter by nature. Her mentality tends to be along the lines of "Kill it before it gets a chance to kill YOU". But she also learned the hard way that sometimes it's better to cut your losses and avoid confrontations. In life-threatening situations, she is absolutely not opposed to running away. There is no dishonor or indignity in not dying.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Heather has a rotten sense of humor. And by 'rotten', I mean that she finds a lot of things funny that she really, honestly shouldn't.
That said, she's not malicious. Under all the snippiness, Heather is an out-and-out goofball. She loves to laugh, and she loves to make other people laugh. Whether it's by good-natured teasing, pranks, or even just GODAWFUL PUNS, it's all good to her.
But the problem with going through the kinds of ordeals she's experienced is that it shaped her into a fairly morbid individual. When your primary method of coping with EVERYTHING is humor, and the things you're being forced to cope with are horrendous to the point of breaking most people, said sense of humor can become very twisted. She means no harm, but because her experiences have numbed her a little, she honestly doesn't always seem to be able to tell what's acceptably funny and what's pushing the envelope too far.
As evidenced by the fact that in canon, after they'd both fought their way through a tangled web of twisted occult dealings, horrifying monsters, decaying otherworlds, gruesome murders, agonizing injuries, and generally pants-wetting levels of fear and hopelessness... she thought it would be a good idea to play a prank on her only friend by pretending that all of the trauma had made her snap and that she was going to STAB HIM.
Heather that is not okay.
WHY WOULD YOU EVER THINK THAT IS OKAY.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
Not really.
She's not entirely stable and she does have a LOT of issues to work through, but she does not have any specific, diagnosible problems. In fact, astonishingly considering her background, she's honestly saner and more mentally-healthy than MOST Silent Hill characters. That's really saying something, considering she's something of the centerpiece of the series and the amount of sheer WTF in her background trumps most. A lot of the things that would be considered signs of insanity in real life are just natural responses to the REALITY of Silent Hill, in her case.
That said, she does have a touch of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, both from the supernatural horrors she's been through as well as, sadly, the 'normal' ones (Heather has a history full of physical/emotional abuse and violent experiences-- some of which are implied to have been sexual in nature).
Her experiences have been nothing if not traumatising and stressful, and she frequently does get flashbacks and night terrors about what she's been through. Because she's been such a loner during her time in Johto (up till now she's never traveled or roomed extensively with anybody, and at the moment her roomies are fellow Silent Hill survivors who likely both go through the same thing themselves), none of her friends have actually witnessed Heather go through one of these yet. She usually takes efforts to hide them if there's other people around.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
OHOHOHO!
Heather gets special dibs on this one because she's had more than one life.
As Alessa, well... the time she got burned alive and forced to 'incubate' an occult god at age seven (the game never states anything explicit about what was done to her to cause this, but the implications are pretty unignorable and it's about as appalling as you'd think it is) is a pretty defining moment, especially since it was the event that sent things snowballing, eventually resulting in Silent Hill as we know it coming into existence.
Yeah, world... that quaint little tourist town with a seedy underbelly and a questionable history is now a quaint little tourist town with a seedy underbelly and a questionable history, and the ability to manifest peoples' worst nightmares and inner psyches in the form of alternate realities and hideous monsters. You're welcome.
As Cheryl, being adopted by Harry and his wife was a very important event because it allowed Alessa to experience something resembling a normal childhood, even if it was from afar. The impact of this on Alessa as a whole was incredible-- she was a hurt, terrified, mistrustful, and utterly broken child who had legit reason to fear and hate just about everybody... yet when she and Cheryl were returned to the same body, she was still able to look Harry in the eye and say "Thank you, Daddy..."
Harry was pretty much responsible for restoring just the tiniest bit of Alessa's faith in the world-- without which the series couldn't really have happened because she'd have just flat-out DIED at the end of SH1 without deciding to take another chance and pulling the "CONGRATULATIONS. YOU HAVE WON: A BABY" stunt on him. Anyway, speaking of the baby...
As Heather herself, the biggest defining moments would probably be:
A: Witnessing her father kill a cult member in their house to protect her-- not only was that pretty much a big 'Atticus Finch shoots the rabid dog' moment, forever cementing the "DADDY IS A BADASS" forever in her mind, but it and the events following it were also PRETTY FRIGHTENING. Between the intruder forcing their way into the Mason house and the way Harry himself was probably manhandled slightly by the police afterwards as a murder suspect (until they ruled it as self-defense and let him off), after that point Heather never felt completely safe, not even at home. They moved from place to place after that to stay hidden from the cult as well as possible, and she never really trusted law enforcement. It was definitely part of what led to her tough, independent, and always-alert attitude.
B: Her first descent into the Otherworld at the beginning of the game. It's the moment that the years of relative safety and shelter she had with Harry officially come to an end-- sort of the crossing of the threshold, if you will. It's more than just the first sequence that proves Silent Hill is a horror game-- it's a loss of innocence. The accompanying music for the lead-up to those scenes is even called "End of Small Sanctuary", and it's named that for a reason. The brief respite, her one chance at getting a normal life after the hell that was Alessa's, is over.
C: Her father's death, for obvious reasons. Not only is it an enormous, emotionally-crippling blow to lose someone who's literally the only piece of family she's ever known (not to mention the only adult she has ever been able to trust), but it's also the event that sets up her motivation for the entire rest of the game. Heather's ability to carry on through everything that awaits her is entirely fueled by her pain and her thirst for revenge against his killer.
D: Her fight with the Memory of Alessa. It's a scene that's so laden with meaning and symbolism that I could talk about it forever, but to cut a long story short, it's the moment that Heather truly remembers everything from her previous lives (as opposed to just getting disjointed flashbacks and deja vu all over the place) and understands the motivations and feelings of her past self. It's the moment that she truly understands who she is, who Alessa is, and that even though they are literally the same person, she had become somebody very different from who she had been seventeen years before, when she sacrificed herself wholly. It's the moment that she realizes that she has options open to her that weren't back then, and that it's up to her to find her own way to end the nightmare, using the strength and determination that Harry had given her (which Alessa, having been all alone and wishing only to stop suffering, did not have.)
It's also the moment when she sort of comes to terms with it, and in a way gains her old self's 'blessing' (even if it's given a little reluctantly, complete with a passive-aggressive note that basically reads "I HAD NO IDEA 'I' WAS SUCH A MORON. I HOPE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, IDIOT. JEEZ.')
14. What does she fear?
Oh god, like... everything?
Dogs, mirrors, fire, babies, pregnancy, wheelchairs, hospitals, doctors, merry-go-rounds, unwanted physical attention, mascot costumes, cancer, rollercoasters, stalkers...
Dogs and fire are two of her most prominent fears. ... And naturally, in Johto those two were combined into one mildly-idiotic physical being in the form of her Pokemon starter/partner, Cujo. Naturally, she spent the first few months being kind of sort of TERRIFIED of the Growlithe... which she disguised as being flat-out mean to him. Of course, thanks to his boundless loyalty and loving demeanor remaining strong despite her initial coldness, the two have been making a lot of progress. She admits to being fond of him now, and treats him more like a companion rather than an annoying animal she's stuck with. Even though she's still wary and shut-off towards other dogs, she's been getting a lot better at pushing her instinctive fears away when she's interacting with him. She even wrestles with him sometimes and lets him sleep on her bed!
That said, while most other Growlithe trainers who have been in Johto as long as she has have long since evolved them into Arcanines, Cujo remains as normal-sized and stumpy as ever. This is because no matter how accustomed Heather has grown to him, she's seen how enormous Arcanines are. And she is definitely not sure she's ready to handle a fire-breathing dog the size of a minivan.
OTHERWISE, apart from the buttload of phobias she picked up thanks to everybody's favorite haunted tourist town, Heather has a few fears that are pretty standard for any young person who's been through a lot. She's definitely afraid of losing what she has-- especially given her past history of taking things for granted and then having them ripped away from her. She cherishes the friends she's made and, perhaps a little irrationally (or maybe not, considering the frequent, seemingly-random disappearances...), is very afraid that she might lose them at any given time. This is a big part of the reason she tries to be affectionate to those she's close to at every opportunity. She never got to have closure with her father back home, OR when he came to Johto for the first time, so even though she's resolved a lot of that NOW, she's still terrified that something like it will happen again.
15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
For such a plucky, go-get-'em individual, Heather... doesn't really have any. Johto is sort of changing that, but back at home, after the incident in Silent Hill (during which she essentially saved the world), Heather certainly wants to live her life, do awesome things and be happy (because she fought for the right to stay alive, okay?!), but because of what she lost in the process, she was sort of hit with a big fat case of "... Well, NOW what?"
With the one thing that really held her life together gone, Heather sunk into limbo a little bit. It's weird to have saved the world but then irrationally feel like it doesn't actually have much in it for you anymore. She's certainly NOT suicidal or thinking that her life "isn't worth it" or something (the war she fought in Silent Hill was for the sake of NOT having to sacrifice herself to stop what was coming, after all-- she even went and had an all-out existential fight with her own past self/doppelganger in order to show herself that she could find a way to end what was happening without resorting to suicide), she's just... feeling a little lost.
So in the year or so between the 'Second Coming' incident and Heather's arrival in Johto, she graduated high school and helped Douglas with his work as a way to keep herself busy, but ultimately she had no idea where she was going in life and it kind of made her feel like a bum. Especially since by this age, she feels like she should have gotten her shit together. I mean, she saved the world, so how hard can it be to find something to DO with herself in it?!
In Johto, on the other hand ... well, she still doesn't have any specific aspirations for her time here, but she's determined to live life to its fullest and enjoy that crazy, uncertain "wtf am I doing" stage. That's pretty much it. Carpe diem!
16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
Heather has a great deal to hide-- but ironically, most of it isn't the stuff she's actually ashamed of. Her past in general is full of material she doesn't really like to divulge, but when it comes to the normal-bad stuff like the decisions she made as a younger teen or how often she took the good things in her life for granted, she's actually pretty open about it. It's not a source of pride (... most of thet ime. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't a teensy bit proud of how good she got at sneaking trinkets out of stores), but she'll admit to those shortcomings readily, and be completely honest with how much she regrets them. She was a pretty awful kid for a few years there, and especially given how many younger-sibling figures she's managed to accumulate in Johto, she's... not going to hide the crap she did in the past. She tells people straight-up that she regrets making certain choices, and that if they make the same ones, they'll probably regret 'em too.
No, the stuff she does tend to hide would be the... crazy wtf aspects she had no control over. Unfortunately, most of her LIFE is "a crazy wtf aspect she has no control over". Most of it is so far out that to an extent, she's legitimately worried people will doubt her sanity-- or worse, start getting too interested. She's had a lot of people 'interested' in her and very few who actually had her best interests in mind. All things considered, she doesn't overly care about what other people think of her, but she doesn't want... that kind of reputation. If people don't like her, fine, but she'd rather they not think she's completely disturbed.
As such, while she's willing to admit that things in her world were not peaceful and that she's seen and been involved in some very odd things, she's fairly reluctant to get into the gory details unless she either really trusts someone, or is forced into a position where NOT telling them might make things worse. There are a few people in Johto who she's started opening up to on the subect of Silent Hill, but she's taking it slowly with all of them. There's just no graceful way to dump that much WTF on somebody all at once.
Now out of all that, the one thing she likely will never willingly admit to anybody (as in, if she was confronted about it by anyone, even her closest friends, she would probably either dodge the question left and right or just flat out refuse to answer) is the fact that she's been pregnant before. It wasn't her fault or anything she even remotely had control over, but it's still a source of anxiety and shame that even SHE can't bring herself to laugh about it like she can with most of the other bad things in her life.
So... yeah. She'll just be keeping that little tidbit to herself for as long as possible. It's not something she likes to think about or remember.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
Heather loves her father deeply. He was literally the only person she had in the entire world, and he sacrificed everything for her: his time, trust, identity, and even his safety were all put on th eline by his decision to take her. She was a helpless baby who he knew was not quite the same as his lost Cheryl, and who might not have even been a real baby but instead some horrible trick of the town's power, for all he knew. But he did it anyway.
As Cheryl, he gave her the normal, happy childhood that Alessa had always dreame of, and the powerful love of a parent for their child: literally going to Hell and back to try and save her life, even though she was not his own flesh and blood.
As Alessa, he saved her from three things: the town that, warped not only by years of bad history but also by her own suffering, would have taken her life, her horrendous, power-hungry excuse for a biological mother, and also from herself.
And as Heather, he took her in even while in the throes of pain at the loss of his 'original' daughter and the fear that she could be dangerous. He was willing to put himself at great risk by doing so, AND-- despite the knowledge that she would never be completely the same as Cheryl, despite everything... still loved her unconditionally. He protected her from the ridiculously large odds stacked against her as much as he could, and taught her how to be smart, strong, and brave.
However... like any parent and child, their relationship wasn't without its rough spots.
Let's face it, guys. Teenagers are hard to deal with no matter who they are, and Heather's not exactly a shining example of an obedient, well-behaved young lady.
Harry, although he did everything he could to be a good father, was still stuck with the monumental task of raising Heather all by himself (for the SECOND TIME, no less. Can you imagine having to guide more or less the same child through their terrible two's twice?), all while keeping her safe from the grasp of the cult (which continued to hound them for several years after Alessa's death/Heather's birth, even tracking them to their home at one point) and in the dark about her own origins. Harry was always a worrywart over Cheryl the first time, and after everything that had happened? The second time, he was even worse.
Justifiably paraoid, he raised Heather as protectively as possible. And unsurprisingly, as she got older and started to get all teenage and rebellious, she started to resent being smothered and hovered over constantly. She had no idea that Harry had a truly legitimate reason to be so overprotective beyond that one weirdo who had broken into their house so long ago-- she just thought he was a paranoid old prune who was oppressing her like THE MAN. As such, although neither of them were happy about it, a slight rift had formed between them by the time she entered high school.
She acted out and did stupid things to get a rise out of him, and ultimately wound up falling in with a bad crowd at school (not like, axe-murderers in the making or anything, just a group of real good-for-nothings) and picking up some really rotten habits while she was at it. In-game, Heather makes references to having smoked, drank alcohol, and shoplifted in the past, with enough of a familiarity that it's safe to assume she did all three on a regular basis, despite Harry's disapproval (and disappointment).
But eventually she got some sense smacked into her and, realizing that she'd wasted a whole lot of time being an ungrateful little creep, she made the decision to ditch her loser friends, swear off on the cigs, and start trying to gingerly rebuild the slightly-charred bridges in hopes of actually being a daughter Harry could be proud of. Needless to say, Harry embraced her efforts with open arms and supported her every step of the way, with more love and patience than most people would have to spare.
Nobody's perfect, but although the occasional rough spots continued, Heather and her father were as close as any child and parent could hope for, even if things were a little rocky sometimes. Heather stopped slacking at school, brought her grades back up, and even joined the track team to give herself something to do after school and avoid the temptation of falling back into her delinquent ways.
Things were looking up, and they were only getting better.
Then this happened.
.. A YEAR LATER, IN JOHTO, she re-met her father under the worst possible circumstances. That is to say, he was too young to know who she was, and she happened to give him an absolutely horrible first-impression of herself, and, despite spending some time with him, was ultimately too ashamed to reveal her identity to him until it was too late. After spending several days at the end of the first September convinced (thanks to the efforts of some particularly sadistic ghost Pokemon bent on tormenting all the 'foreigners' with their worst fears) that she was back in Silent Hill, she realized that she had been presented with an incredible opportunity that she'd never have gotten at home, and that by putting her tail between her legs and not taking advantage of it, she was basically spitting in its face. So when she emerge from the nightmare extremely shaken and with a warrant on her head for having brutally attacked several people in her delirium, she finally confessed the truth to Harry.
He disappeared from Johto almost immediately afterwards, not responding any further.
Needless to say, this had an enormous effect on Heather, making her realize that even though she had learned her lesson about not appreciating second chances, too late was just too late. It really altered the way she treated everyone else she cared about, making her determined not to repeat the mistake again. She opened up to more people, growing closer to them in many cases, but even then, nothing could really make up for the shame of having messed up so badly, in her mind. She'd gotten exactly what she wanted-- a second chance with her father-- and wasted it.
... Luckily, he showed up again several months later, this time from her time. Overjoyed, she's now making up for all that lost time. Despite everything they've BOTH been through, it was fairly easy for them to fall back into the same relationship they had before he died, even if there is a solemness to it now that everything (including the things he had never been able to tell her while he was alive, that she sadly had to find out on her own) is all out in the open. But overall, Heather's just happy to have him back.
As of right now, they're both enjoying life in Johto, making friends and living as a happy family, without the constant fear of Silent Hill catching up with them.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Heather has no blood siblings that she's aware of, which is definitely a good thing. If there's anyone who shouldn't be procreating and passing on more of her crazy-genes, it's Dahlia Gillespie.
However, during her life as Alessa, she did have a very close friend around her age (only a year or so younger than her-- two at most) who she considered a sibling, even straight-up referring to her in-game as 'little sister'.
The friend'sname was Claudia Wolf and both girls were raised by strict, fanaticl parents (Alessa by her mother and Claudia by her father) who belonged to the same religious cult, and both were brutally abused, both physically and emotionally. They took refuge in each other's friendship and spent as much time together as possible, drawing pictures and playing card games. When Alessa was alone, her sketches usually involved monsters, violence, and other indications of her increasingly-troubled psyche. But when she was with Claudia, she put on a strong front and would help her younger friend draw pictures of themselves having fun at school, with loving families and lots of friends-- in other words, everything they wished for but didn't have. Being the older of the two, Alessa felt very protective of her friend and tried to shelter her from the abuse as much as she could.
It's unknown whether or not Claudia was told the truth about what happened to her friend on that summer night shortly after Alessa had turned seven, or if she was initially told the lie the rest of the town had been told: that Alessa was dead, burned to death in the 'accidental' house fire that destroyed the Gillespie home and several other houses in the neighborhood.
But at some point, Claudia and the other children WERE made aware through Dahlia's carefully-plotted words that Alessa lived still, and that even though they couldn't see her, she was working to make them all happy... by bringing Paradise back to earth. As she entered her teens, Claudia grew somewhat close to her old friend's mother, despite the cruel treatment she had often witnessed as a child. She hung onto her every word about Alessa's holy role in what was to come-- dreaming and praying that her friend would succeed and that soon they could be together again, in the happy world that they had always tried to recreate on paper.
But seven years after Alessa first disappeared, Claudia's hopes were shattered when a stranger came to town. Dahlia Gillespie's long-awaited plan to bring God back into the world failed and the holy Saint Alessa, Mother of God and Daughter of God, vanished for real: stolen from them by a very sneaky man named Harry Mason. Dahlia was killed, the cult's underground alliance with the local hospital was cut off, and their so-called savior was gone.
Claudia finished growing up still in the care of the weakened cult and her abusive father... but now all alone, without Alessa there to protect her.
SEVENTEEN YEARS LATER?
Things between Heather and Claudia got... complicated.
Claudia, by that point a grown woman and ironically far older than the living incarnation of her 'big sister', still wanted nothing more than to save the world and everyone in it. Having exhibited similar (though not as strong) powers as Alessa, she had risen to a point of respect in the cult, which had begun to grow in power again as the years passed despite the loss of its leaders back during the Alessa Incident. Still incredibly compassionate and sympathetic to the pain of others, she was appalled by the suffering, cruelty, and injustice in the world and continued to retain her childhood dream of that paradise for everyone on earth, where nobody would have to feel pain or sadness like she and Alessa had as children. Her greatest dream was to finish carrying out what Dahlia and (or so she thought, anyway) Alessa had been trying to accomplish ... despite the fact that 'Alessa' was now a snotty, upstart, most unsaintly little snip of a teenager who had clearly forgotten her holy mission.
Heather, on the other hand, just wanted to be left alone.
Things didn't work out too well for either of them, and of the two, only Heather walked out of Silent Hill alive on the night of their fateful reunion.
... Needless to say, when Claudia herself showed up in Johto roughly a year after Heather did, the same tensions that had arisen before came rushing back, albeit with less urgency. Believing Johto to be the Paradise she had been trying to create (Claudia arrived from the very moment of her death), she sees no reason to harm Heather further, or for that matter, her family-- even though her venomous hatred of Harry Mason remains.
On Heather's end, things are... complicated. That's the best way to describe it. Complicated. She didn't (and still isn't, really) handle it well and even though a couple months have passed, doesn't really know how to sort out her feelings, which are everything from burning hatred for what Claudia had taken from her and forced her to endure, guilt over having had to leave Claudia behind in Silent Hill where she would grow up into a desperate fanatic, fear for her family members and those she cares about, and-- yes, even love for the friend that she once had.
It's... yeah. It's complicated.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
Heather's one and only blood relative is Dahlia Gillespie, her biological mother. Although technically she gave birth to ALESSA and HEATHER was just sort of... formed magically by Alessa's crazy holy brainpowers or something W/E DAHLIA'S STILL THE MOM
I'd... go into tl;dr detail about how awful and twisted Alessa's relationship with Mommy really was, but I think I can more or less get across the same meaning by telling you that as soon as she actually had the strength to do so after seven long years of being confined to a hospital bed and kept in constant pain, Alessa (and/or the God that had been inside her) kind of... zapped Dahlia with lightning and set her on fire.
You can put two and two together about whether or not Heather can stand her biological mother.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
Canon-wise, besides Claudia, there really isn't anybody else. She was never close to Claudia's father (she and Claudia both had been terrified of him), and it doesn't appear that she was particularly close with anybody in the cult, either, despite the fact that her mother had turned her into such an important figure for them.
Harry, though not related by blood, is absolutely, unquestionably her father and the fact that he didn't sire her himself doesn't matter one bit to Heather. Since her only true family consisted of her adoptive parents, Heather puts almost no stock in blood whatsoever.
As a result, in Johto where she was able to branch out and start cultivating real friendships with people, her friends... pretty much are her family. Over time, she's managed to form a rather large, ragtag family tree-- often winding up with sibling-like relationships with many of her friends. She sees nothing unusual about this and is generally very open with the affection she shows them.
First things first-- there's always been something of a kinship between Heather and various other Silent Hill survivors that she met in Johto, even ones who aren't around anymore. Henry Townshend in particular is someone who Heather considers practically family, especially since he's been all-but adopted by Harry personally and now travels and stays with them. He's like the big shy stoner brother who everybody never even knew they wanted.
Chronologically, Otacon and Liquid Snake were two of the first unrelated people in Johto who Heather grew to love as siblings-- Otacon initially saw reminders of his own lost little sister in Heather, and over the course of a relatively short period of time, all three of them grew close. Heather considers them both to be big brothers.
She also wound up with a SMALL ARMY of little-bro figures like Sora, Miles, and Ken (to name a few)-- all of whom she feels protective of.
Rise, another one of the very first friends she made upon arriving in Johto, wound up not only being one of Heather's BEST friends, but also something of a younger sister. Her feelings on THAT front are fairly complicated, but complicated or not, Rise is part of the family for sure.
Then there's the older, father-figurey folks-- Heather has never and WILL never consider anybody apart from Harry himself to be her father, even if they've mentally adopted her a little-- but that doesn't change the affection and/or respect she feels for people like the Professor, Old Snake, Ironhide, or of course, Douglas-- whether it's uncle/grandpa or just a close student-teacher relationship, they're all either coming to be or have already been included in Heather's little family.
There are many, many others-- but those are just a few examples.
Although she'd never have given up her life with Harry for the world, it was a rather lonely existence considering it was just the two of them, constantly in hiding or on the run. Despite being an independent loner, that dream from Alessa's childhood never really died-- and Johto is the first chance she's had to finally build that big, loving (AND SLIGHTLY DYSFUNCTIONAL OF COURSE) family that Alessa always wanted.
Chances are if you are friends with Heather, you have some place in her mental family tree, even if it's 'second-cousin' or 'that eccentric great-uncle who nobody invites to the family reunions'.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
In canon, no close friends are mentioned or seen. In headcanon, when she started turning her life around, she ditched most of the bad-influence crowd and became something of a loner-- unfortunately her life was then promptly interrupted by Silent Hill (SURPRIIIIIISE!) before she had a chance to do much about rekindling any better friendships with less-likely-to-wind-up-in-jail schoolmates.
As such, her best (and only) real friend in canon is a private investigator named Douglas Cartland, who arguably starts out as an enemy but grows to be the closest thing she's got to a friend over the course of the game. Her only ally in her struggle against the power of the town, Douglas ultimately isn't that helpful but still tries his best to aid her in any way that he can, both because he was inadvertently responsible for her problems in the first place AND because she reminds him so much of his deceased teenage son.
They actually meet under unfriendly and awkward circumstances. Having been hired by Claudia (who naturally didn't tell him the truth, instead feeding him a story that Heather had been kidnapped from her rightful family as a baby) to find Heather, Douglas tracks her down and first approaches her after following her to a mall.
UNSURPRISINGLY, Heather's creeper radar goes off and she tells him to get lost. When he persists, she ditches him by slipping into the ladies' room and crawling out a window. SO LONG, SUCKAAAA~
Rough beginnings aside, he did go on to be her only true ally-- and even further, continued to support her as she struggled to move on with her life after it all.
IN JOHTO on the other hand, Heather's a little luckier when it comes to friends around her actual age (although she certainly still does have a few depressed-old-man friends in Johto-- what can she say, Douglas must have given her a soft spot for them) and has quite a lot of them.
Her best friends, though, would probably be Kaito Kuroba and Rise Kujikawa. They're both roughly her age (give or take a couple years-- Kaito is closer to her age, while Rise is several years younger) and both really fill that gap Heather had in her life when it came to friends who she could really be herself around. Because both have been through some really rough things themselves, she can entrust them with the darker parts of her life, but at the same time she can also goof off and be a regular kid with them as well.
When you can spend hours of the phone getting advice on how to deal with some horrific past trauma from someone, and then the very next day spend hours cracking YO MAMA jokes and giggling like a dweeb with the exact same person... that's special, man. That's special.
6. Does she have other close friends?
In canon? Lol no, for the same reasons elaborated on above.
In Johto, she has quite a few. It was a fresh start for her and she was able to make a lot of new friends now that she didn't have to deal with seeing constant reminders of her past everywhere she went.
7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
Heather never had a problem making friends, but she did have a problem making friends.
I've talked on and off about it throughout a lot of the other answers, but the long and short of it is pretty much this:
Like most peppy, confident teens, Heather rarely had trouble fitting in and surrounding herself with an entourage of airheaded buddies (and later: party animals, delinquents, and other generally-bad influences), but partially thanks to her father's overprotectiveness and paranoia (which involved them moving from place to place a lot, rarely staying in the same place for more than a few years at a time), she was never able to form really close relationships with anybody.
She was still very much this way when she came to Johto. It didn't take her long to start making friends, but she was still pretty wary of letting anybody get too close, especially since she was still fairly fresh out of her experiences in Silent Hill at the time.
That said, in the year she's spent here, she's made a lot of progress and gained some friends who she'd trust with almost anything. She still has a hard time opening up about the rougher stuff, even to those people, but she's getting better!
On the other hand, Heather can be fairly hard to get along with to some people just by virtue of being a snarky, belligerant person. She doesn't always make it easy for people to be nice to her, even if it's people she might in fact be fond of. Part of that still has to do with her ingrained wariness of strangers and while she's aware of it, she doesn't really work very hard at bettering herself when it comes to that.
8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
Besides her father, her friends are the only family she has now.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
Single. She's too young to have ever been married.
10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No. She's never actually been in a real romantic relationship with anybody, beyond drunken makeouts with strangers at parties and maybe a few brief, nondescript boyfriends in middle and high-school.
She's not repressed or a prude or anything (obviously), but she does have some reservations about getting into a relationship of that sort, thanks to a series of Bad Experiences (ranging from things as simple as "The guy who just shoved his hand down my shirt on the dancefloor looks like what would happen if Peter Parker were bitten by a radioactive blobfish instead of a spider" to as legitimately traumatizing as "this man who I've NEVER MET BEFORE is calling me his lover and writing me graphic poems about all the ways he wants to violate me and I'm trapped alone with him in a labyrinthine abandoned building and I think he's following me HELP").
Not to mention, Heather has a pretty severe case of the 'damaged goods' mindset going on-- she doesn't self-blame, but after everything she's been through and all the lasting damage she endured from it, the thought of actually having to come clean to a partner about it all sort of scares her, both from the standpoint of possibly being rejected for it AND just the reality of them being forced to deal with all her twisted emotional baggage.
She does secretly crave emotional and physical closeness and definitely sees herself in a relationship in that metaphorical 'someday', but until then she doesn't actually have any particularly active interest in it. It's something she thinks would be nice, but not like... SUPER INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT. She's a very independent person.
11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
Despite the "OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK HOW ARE YOU ANYTHING OTHER THAN A GIBBERING WRECK IN THE CORNER OF A PADDED ROOM SOMEWHERE" nature of her life in general, Heather had a relatively normal childhood with Harry and as such, her first crush was on some random cute male classmate back when she was twelve or so. She proceeded to blow any chances of anything ever with him by accidentally chipping his front teeth during an ill-fated game of Spin-the-Bottle. Twelve-year-old Heather was mortified and locked herself in her room for two days, but present day Heather just looks back on the memory and thinks it's comedy gold. Oh, those crazy kids!
As for crushes now, Heather is for the most part very quiet about them. She never really expects them to go anywhere, so even when she developes one, there tends to be very little indication that it's there, apart from the fact that she sometimes goes the route of a first-grade boy and tries to annoy the hell out of them because she is mature.
That said, she's had a couple since coming to Johto.
One was a hearty case of puppylove for Phoenix Wright, who was a close friend to her during his time in Johto. It was pretty innocent, all things considered-- more like a college freshman crushing on the cute grad-student TA than anything serious, although her friendship with him was very genuine.
The OTHER... is on her best friend, Kaito Kuroba.
For quite a long time, she treated it in the same easygoing 'PSHHHH LIKE IT'D EVER HAPPEN lol' manner she did all of her crushes, but as the months pass, she's been starting to get more and more aware of it-- to the point of accidentally letting it slip to Rise, who is doing her darndest to try and get Heather to do something about it. We'll see how that turns out.
12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
Quite a few things. She's not interested in staying away from relationshups forever, after all.
More than anything else (outside of all the mushy stuff like trust and joy and love and affection), she'd want someone who she could trust enough to lean on and be vulnerable in front of-- but even more importantly, someone who's also intuitive enough to know when she needed her space. She's not the type to collapse in somebody's arms whenever she's having a hard time with something, and she'd feel kind of bad if she wound up punching hubby in the face in a pique of anger if he or she insisted on coming to her rescue when she really just needed a moment alone to scream into a pillow or kick an old computer-monitor down a hill or something.
She'd also want someone who was capable of being fairly mellow and stable-- to balance out her hotheadedness a bit. Nobody wants two temperamental kids spitting fire at each other every time a temper happens to flare. As grudgingly as she'd admit it, Heather would probably go best with someone who was a little more emotionally mature than she was, at least in certain aspects.
... But most importantly, she'd need someone fun-loving and willing to be silly, because everything else aside, she's a goofball and no one without a healthy sense of humor (and the oomph to 'fight back') would EVER be able to survive being in a relationship with her. She's had enough pain and heartache to last a lifetime, and if she's gonna share any more of that lifetime with somebody, they need to be willing to put up with playfulness.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
Heather, good mothers don't kick their children in the head until they die.
You are a terrible mother.
In all seriousness, no-- Heather absolutely, NO exceptions, positively does NOT want children. At least not any of her own, ever. If she ever does decide to take in a child, it'll be through adoption.
She's not actually bad with kids, despite what she might have you believe (though she's better with troubled kids than she is with normal ones for some reason. Take that as you will), but after what she's been through... pregnancy and infant-rearing is just something she cannot, WILL not ever put herself through of her own volition. Not again.
Of all the many triggers that bring Heather back to her darkest experiences mentally, this one is probably the most terrible.
14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
Claudia is the closest thing she's ever had to a 'rival', but even that's... ehhhhh. So no, she doesn't really have any rivals.
Enemies, on the other hand, she has plenty of. She's pretty good at making them, unfortunately. But apart from the ones that she made HERSELF just by being snotty and quick to argue, there's quite a few who oppose or endanger her in canon purely by the virtue of her being the centerpiece of a dangerous cult. The worst of which would probably have been Dahlia, Dr. Kaufmann (who was ostensibly Dahlia's 'partner' in leading the plot to obtain God's power), Claudia (for obvious reasons), Leonard Wolf, and Vincent (who was sort of her ally, but would have been all too happy to kill her the moment it became a favorable move).
In Johto, she hasn't had any partiularly venomous enemies yet that weren't general villains who EVERYONE wanted to combat-- apart from Dahlia Hawthorne, who Heather had a personal hatred for on account of her attempted murder of Phoenix Wright via Poisonpowder. It never did wind up coming to blows before Dahlia disappeared, but there was a strong possibility that it would have had she remained.
She also seems to have made an enemy out of Soviet Russia of all people-- although admittedly she has no idea that she's declared war on an actual country as opposed to a single dude who creeps her out.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale?
I'm gonna say that she's a 2 ("Predominantly heterosexual but more than incidentally homosexual"). Even if she leans towards boys as a general rule, physically she does find both sexes attractive.
Despite the fact that she'd have to get over her trust issues towards women first (Heather is often unfairly biased against older girls/women from the get-go, getting a little tense and wary if they seem too interested in her. This is because she was heavily abused and manipulated at the hands of women she should have been able to trust, and never really got any benevolent female figures in her life to counterract the bad associations), I could easily see her falling for a girl if the right one came along. ... As long they were patient enough to wait for her to reassure herself that they weren't gonna do anything crazy, like use her to destroy the world. Ladies, forgive her. She's working on getting better about this, seriously.
That said, she's still pretty guy-oriented and to date has only been significantly attracted to dudes.
16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
She's no prude and she's got a reasonably healthy attitude about it in general, but given everything she's been through... she does have a few hangups about it and ultimately isn't really that interested in it at this point in her life. Like... at all.
Silent Hill is sort of infamous for its disturbing sexual symbolism... and there's too many hints scattered throughout the story to ignore that any sexual experiences Heather may have had in the past were not good ones. In fact, the game sort of implies that they were really really bad.
TAKING THAT INTO CONSIDERATION... She's not asexual and she's totally cool with the idea of having it eventually, but it'll be on her own terms and with someone who she absolutely knows that she can trust. Until then? It's not something that's important enough to her that she has any reason to seek it out.
Especially since sex is rumored to sometimes result in babies, and Heather has fucking HAD it with these motherfucking babies on this motherfucking plane!
17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
WELL.
ACCORDING TO VINCENT, Heather gets some kind of weird sexual gratification from killing things and crushing the life out of them with her manly manboots.
But you have to remember that he's Vincent and he's creepy and has terrible hygiene and pretty much everything he says is a lie. He also may be mistaking Heather's TEENAGE RAGE (tm) for something kinky because he isn't good at feelings.
Actual turn-ons, as relayed by Heather*:
-HAWT MENS
-Ghostbuster outfits
-hawt mens IN ghostbuster outfits
-badassery
-traditional yodeling music
-Ultimate Frisbee
-the word 'discombobulate'
-Winston Churchill
-Antiques Road Show marathons
-sports metaphors
-World of Warcraft collectible figurines
-organic vegetables
Actual turn-offs, as relayed by Heather**:
-anything having to do with or resembling Stanley Coleman.
Weird bedroom havits:
She still does that thing where you take a running leap onto the bed just in case there's something underneath that might grab her feet. Yes, she's 19. No, she doesn't care if it's dumb.
*Heather often lies and also thinks she's incredibly hilarious. ... But on a serious level, unless it actually comes UP with somebody, Heather's response to this question is "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS."
**This one is not a lie. Seriously. Don't act like Stanley Coleman.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
Heather's birthday is never given, but Silent Hill 1 (during which she was born) supposedly takes place during the summer, so I like to peg her as a Leo. It fits her personality in a lot of ways, and it also has associations with the sun. And, you know, the cult worships a sun god, and-- yeah, I'm a geek. Moving on.
Headcanon timeline (Silent Hill is a butt because VERY FEW DATES ARE USED, which means it's pretty much anyone's guess as to when it actually takes place) dictates that she was born in 1990, and thus would be a horse. This fits her pretty well, too.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
Heather is only religious/spiritual in the sense that she knows all the crazy shit the cult worships is indeed real. That doesn't mean she likes it. After all, it did ruin her lives. All three of them.
Churches and places of worship actually sort of bother her, thanks to all the pain and fear she's suffered due to religion.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
While Heather's not a very good example of a perfect, noble protagonist, she is a good person under all that grunge. She inherited a strong set of morals from her father, holds a lot of sympathy for people who have had hard lives, and ultimately does strive to do what's right. She can be very bloodthirsty when wronged, but the thought of killing other human beings without justifiable reason horrifies and disgusts her.
That said, however... she can fall away from these morals disconcertingly easily when she is angry enough.
If she really wants to hurt somebody, she'll make excuses for herself to do so, and passes sometimes-cruel judgement on others hastily. At one point in canon, she even tells somebody "I guess YOU'RE not a person anyway" before fighting him to the death. Even though he was a dangerous enemy, she still knew he was technically a human being... Damn, that's cold.
It's a slippery slope-- one that she has to be careful not to slide too far down on. Taking it upon herself to decide that she has the right to make that kind of judgement about someone-- not whether or not they're enough of a threat to her for a killing to be justified, but whether or not they deserve to live... that leads to a dark, dark place... One she's very scared of. Enough that while her emotions still do reign supreme and she's more than willing to kill if need be, she tries her best not to let the anger get the better of her.
4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
It really depends on the beliefs. If it's trivial, whatever. If it's major but isn't really hurting anybody or particularly grinding on Heather's nerves, she'll put up with it. But if it's something that's in DIRECT conflict with something Heather believes, she'll either start getting nasty or just throw up her hands and leave. The latter is more likely if it's something REALLY upsetting-- she hates arguing with people who are set in beliefs that she consideres stupid or dangerous. They won't change their minds because of her, so why waste her breath on a debate?
She'll make exceptions if she cares about the person and feels it's really important to make her point, but for the most part she's just like "Screw it, I'm out."
Being too engrossed in religion is a GREAT way to make her prejudices flare up.
5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
Eh... some are rational, some are irrational, but all of them have reasons behind them.
Most of them, I've talked about in other questions on this meme-- overly religious people and older girls/women who take too much of an interest in her are the main people who Heather tends to be unfairly biased against. In the case of the religious stuff, the reason is fairly... well, DUH. It's hard to imagine anybody could go through what Heather did and emerge from it with a good view on faith.
In the case of the women, it mainly has to do with the fact that in addition to general abuse, she underwent mental and physical torture at the hands of two women she should have been able to trust (her mother and her surrogate sister), both of whom were using and manipulating her for selfish purposes (well, okay, mostly Dahlia. Claudia may have done terrible things but she did have non-selfish reasons for it. Not that that makes it any better...).
That isn't to say that Alessa didn't undergo mistreatment at the hands of men as well (HEATHER HAS HAD PLENTY OF BAD/SCARY EXPERIENCES WITH MEN, LEMME TELL YA), but unlike with Dahlia and Claudia, Heather was raised by a kind and loving man who demonstrated by example that not all men are monsters who will hurt, bully, or take advantage of you.
She had no such salient female role models-- Jodie, although a loving and gentle adoptive mother, died with Cheryl was three and left sweet but still-vague memories in her wake. And Lisa, though kind, was present during the seven most agonizing, emotionally-destructive years of Alessa's life AND was ultimately aiding her enemies by helping to cover up the truth. There was just nothing to combat the awful treatment she came to associate with mothers.
AS SUCH, any maternal sort of person who sees the 'troubled teen' side of Heather and tries to help out frequently winds up shot down, sometimes rudely, even if she otherwise likes or is fond of the person. This is hideously unfair on Heathers part, but behind the GRRR ARRRRRG I SEE WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND DON'T THINK YOU'RE GONNA GET AWAY WITH IT, BITCH!!1!!!ONE! is just a scared kid who really, really doesn't wanna get hurt again. Please. :(
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
At home, she's not rich at all, but she's pretty comfortable. Harry was a frugal man, so while he was never a millionaire, he took measures to ensure that they would always have money to fall back on if they needed it (aka, if the cult found them and they suddenly found themselves forced to uproot and run). Although she was once an avid shopper (and still has a secret fondness for it) Heather herself is pretty good at spending intelligently, not to mention she's not the type to want to live in total luxury anyway. So she's been able to live off of what he left her without much trouble.
In Johto, the trainer lifestyle is so based around travel that unless you'rebeating up little kids' Pokemon for their lunch money constantly battling a LOT, you're probably not going to have a ton of money to spend on stuff apart from the necessities. Heather's routine is usually to wait until she starts getting really low on money and then to grab a job for a few weeks at a time to build up her buffer again-- supplementing with battles on the side.
Exceptions are around Christmastime, which she actually saves up a hefty wad of cash to pay for gifts with.
Currently, she's rooming and traveling with two other people with whom she can split costs for things, so she's actually having an even easier time than before.
2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
Although she was on the edge of poverty in her life as Alessa, growing up with Harry, Heather was always pretty firmly in the middle-class. Social-circle-wise, she was usually considered pretty "cool" and didn't have a lot of trouble with bullies (if anything, she occasionally WAS the bully-- although never one as cruel as the ones who tormented little Alessa).
In Johto, she's a traveling trainer, which is more or less what the entire society is built around so she's in good shape social-standing-wise, aside from the fact that she's an 'otherworlder'.
3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
In her own world, she lives alone in the apartment that she used to live in with her father. At times she's thought about moving somewhere without such bad memories, but she's reluctant to leave the last place she has memories of her father in. It's a rather depressing place even without the bad associations-- because they moved around a lot, the place is rather bare and it's not in a particularly nice building, or part of town for that matter. Now that Heather's the only one living in it, she COULD probably fix it up and make it a little more homey, but still dealing with the emotional aftermath of Silent Hill, she hasn't really made the effort yet.
In Johto, she lives on the move-- never staying in one place permanently. When she IS in a town, she usually stays in a hotel (which is generally little more than a crash pad for her) and is currently sharing a room with two other people: her father, and fellow Silent Hill survivor Henry Townshend. This is a far cry from how she lived before (she was a constant loner), but she doesn't mind.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Basic necessities pretty much ARE what she spends her money on back home-- rent, utilities, groceries... When she has some extra cash or just has had a particularly bad day, she treats herself with new clothes, DVDs, video games, or books. She used to be a rather avid shopper (as much as Harry allowed her to be, anyway-- not counting her shoplifting escapades) but that trailed off after Silent Hill.
As for what she usually spends on in the land of Pokemon, most of it goes towards food-- both for herself and for the Pokemon. Otherwise, it's pretty much the usual traveling supplies. Lots of Potions and Pokeballs. Very little in the way of media or trinkets gets bought, mostly because that stuff adds up and the more crap you accumulate, the harder it is to travel. Apart from the basics, if she spends extra money it's usually on somebody else, either a meal or a gift.
5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
Before she was whisked away to the magical land of colorful, superpowered animals, she was more or less floating in job limbo, apart from helping Douglas out with his investigative work from time to time (protip: that line of work is not NEARLY as exciting as all those forensic crime shows and film noirs had led her to believe). She didn't like it at all-- Heather is somebody who hates sitting around and not accomplishing anything, and it really pinged her guilty conscience to have been reduced to one of those people who lives mainly off of takeout Chinese and falls asleep to old sitcom reruns every night after she had saved the world a year before.
Fortunately in Johto, things are a little better. Since 'Trainer' is more or less a legitimate (and encouraged) occupation for youths, jobs in Johto are often viewed as nothing more than temporary supplements to the trainer lifestyle. She's worked a few of them, including a temp Center helper, a cashier/assistant in the Goldenrod Department Store, and a waitress in a small Ecruteak City diner-- but never stays for too long. AND THAT'S OKAY WITH HER.
6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
Does "going out and being a disruptive teenage hooligan" count? At home, she'd been in a slump since Silent Hill, since a lot of her old hobbies sort of lost their zing after she'd battled monsters and prevented an apocalypse. Previously, she'd enjoyed reading, track, and a certain amount of scrapbooking-type artsy activities (her room at home has a bunch of self-made collages hanging all over the place), but then the cloud of "meh" moved in after her father's death.
On the other hand, while she found them a little "gross" before, she discovered a newfound appreciation for firearms and wound up spending a fair bit of time and energy maintaining her collection of weaponry (and adding to it once or twice when she saw a particularly enticing gun or knife within her budget). Awwww yeeeaaaah.
She also got more into parkour, which she'd been interested in at the hobby-level before. Now she's more of a pro.
7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Heather's not picky about what she eats-- which sadly tends to be pretty junky fare most of the time. She likes fast-food and has an enormous sweet tooth, but she spends so much time running around and being physically active that it doesn't tend to show much.
In Johto, given that most trainers are kids wandering the countryside on their own (or in groups of OTHER kids), mealtimes are erratic. Some days Heather and her team might wind up grazing on snacks from dawn till dusk, and other days it might be nightfall before she realizes "... SHIT. I haven't eaten today."
Ah, the life of a grubby animal-training teen living from paycheck to paycheck.
Associations
Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is her favorite:
1. Color? Her favorite color is orange, bar none. As for associations: warm colors in general. Yellows, oranges, reds.
2. Smell? Favorite is old paper and bookbinding glue, because it reminds her of her dad. Also, pumpkins and dead leaves.
3. Time of day? Late afternoon.
4. Season? Her favorite is summer, but I tend to associate her with autumn for some reason.
5. Book? Watership Down.
6. Music? Grunge/punky stuff-- OK Go is a good example of the kind of music she particularly favors. She also likes oldish stuff like The Beatles, Blue Oyster Cult, The Grateful Dead because that was the sort of music her ol' man listened to throughout her childhood.
7. Place? Libraries and bookstores.
8. Substance? Used to be cigarettes, but she quit for good.
9. Plant? Oh, this one is hard. Hm. I dunno... maybe, uh.... heather? Yeah, that works.
10. Animal? Phoenix. Because ~*~symbolism~*~ Also, the wren, the kite, and the red-winged blackbird. I LIKE BIRD METAPHORS OKAY.I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM.

I tried my best to answer questions taking both Silent Hill canon and the events/development that has happened in Route 29 into consideration!
This will be subject to editing in the future, in all likelihood.
WARNING: THIS SURVEY CONTAINS
SHIT WE HAVE A
She doesn't usually do that, of course, but it's not unusual to find her hunched over a cup of hot chocolate on a particularly bad day with her face on the table and her arms wrapped around her stomach.
In Johto, the trainer lifestyle is so based around travel that unless you're
