98. [Action for Saffron City, backdated to Friday]

[It's funny, because these sorts of weekends have come to be ones that Heather dreads, clear memories or no. She doesn't remember much of them when they roll around, but she remembers enough, and usually what she remembers is bad.]
[So yeah, she's sort of been walking on eggshells, waiting for this to happen.]
[BUT... between all the craziness going down throughout November... bundling over to Kanto with the rest of her family to cheer Crow on during the Tournament, spending Thanksgiving in the packed-to-bursting household of a grumpy FBI agent and the enormously large family unit he seems to have somehow gathered (despite... being himself) ...]
[It drives weird dreamy weekends filled with amnesia and horror and the Koolaid Man bursting through the wall out of the mind, a little!]
[.... Which is why, yeah, uh, she's out taking Cooj for a nighttime walk on Friday night, and doesn't quite notice anything's up yet.]
[Or the pink bunny following her around.]
[OOC: Tags may be horrendously slow due to NaNo, but I had to hiatus-break at least a LITTLE for 4th Wall! Robbie the Rabbit will be lingering in the background of any given thread, but feel free to throw anything at Heather and not bother with the spooky pink bunny chillin over there.]

[in any case, his eyes widen, and he brings both his hands to his face, patting experimentally.]
What is it? Is there something — [does he have a booger? you can tell him the truth, Heather. if she's about to crack a joke he's totally fallen for it.]
no subject
[She looks him up and down appraisingly for a moment... before seemingly receiving a revelation.]
Oh! I got it.
[She reaches over with both hands to thoroughly ruffle up Sora's hair.]
There. Much better!
no subject
[he straightens, his hair now a disaster zone, but he's nonchalant as ever.]
Oh, good! Thanks for the help, Heather.

[Heather's got a knack for making things messy! But for now she steps back, because Cujo wants to greet the kid again-- a little more gently this time, fortunately. He's snuffling at Sora's pockets in hopes of treats.]
no subject
You've been taking really good care of everybody, right Cujo?
no subject
Yeah, he's the sole voice of reason around here sometimes.
[She pats the dog's back as Sora pays attention to his head.]
Keepin' all us crazy hooligans in order.
no subject
[like sandwich locating. congrats, Cujo, you've officially stolen his lunch.]
no subject
Right, boy?
[Having scarfed down the sandwich, Cujo sits up and looks at Sora expectantly. c: More?]
no subject
[translation oh god I am so hungry, big sis, and the dog ate my food. also Cujo looks hungry.]
no subject
Hmm. You know, I think you're right.
Tell you what. Let's go get some dinner. It's on me.
no subject
Really? Well — you'll let me get dessert then, right?
[because he's pretty sure he still owes Heather an eating contest of some sort, and by golly if he isn't going to issue such a challenge over a slice of cake.]
no subject
I dunno, squirt. You just got back. D'you even have any money?
no subject
[another brilliant plan foiled by lack of funds. unless...]
[.........]
I'll tell them it's my birthday! And your birthday too, so we both get free cake.
no subject
But it's not my birthday...]... I knew there was a reason I missed having you around, squirt.
[Cue a proud hair-ruffle as they walk.]
no subject
I did learn from the best, you know. And... I miss this place a lot sometimes. At least we get to hang out every once in a while. Even if how it happens doesn't make much sense... Right?
no subject
Yeah.
... I'm glad you get to remember me sometimes, even if it's just for a few days a couple times a year.
no subject
[but he understands. that's why he lifts his arm and leans into a light hug as they walk.]
[a few days out of the year is better than nothing, and Sora, optimistic kid that he is, is convinced he just needs to figure out how to get his brain to catch up with his heart. the memories are always there whenever he pops in unexpectedly, right? it's just a matter of getting them to stay. a lot of hurt could be avoided in this world if he could figure that out.]
[that's probably why he falls silent after that, face scrunched up in thought.]
no subject
[She chuckles (can't help it) and gives him a friendly shake with the arm that's around him as they walk.]
Someday you are gonna charm some girl's heart out with talk like that, kiddo.
[But all jokes aside, she lapses into a thoughtful silence as well and they walk quietly for awhile before she breaks it.]
So, whatcha in the mood for? There's sushi, pizza, some... seedy-looking grill place that probably has hamburgers...
no subject
[but by the time Heather speaks up again, only his ears are still burning bright red.]
Uh... [he is an island kid who loves his fish, but... hmm.]
Pizza... sushi. No, wait — no — nah, you can pick!
no subject
Indecisive, huh?
Aaaaall right.
Let's go with pizza. Can't go wrong with pizza.

[though now he's thinking about what it would be like if he put some of the food back home on pizza. sea bass on pizza! tuna on pizza! ... coconuts on pizza!]
[Sora wrinkles his nose very, very slightly.]
no subject
Best stick to combos we know are good.
no subject
[but he shrugs, nonchalant.] Well, that's okay by me! Just as long as we get food together at all.
