115. [Text/Action for Mahogany]
General announcement here
I don't really know what kinds of contacts Dad kept here but for anyone who knew him, Harry Mason is gone. His stuff was mostly left to me and one other person so I guess that's really all there is to say about it.
Later.
-Heather
[Heather's always mostly let her Pokemon run free-- or at least the more reliable ones-- when the gang is bunkered down at a hotel somewhere. After all, not everybody gets to come along when they're between cities, so time spent outside of the box by default takes place mostly within walking distance of a Pokemon Center.]
[Today there can be a small cluster of Pokemon seen by the entrance of the Mahogany Inn. A Manectric, unusually subdued for anyone who knows her, gently licking the head of a Pikachu. The electric mouse has a slightly crumpled sheet of paper in her paws, and behind her, a Noctowl shelters a small, rotund Hoothoot with one wing while peering over the Pikachu's shoulder.]
[While it's little more than coos and soft canine whuffles to most ears, any Pokemon or person with a sensitive ear can probably pick up the quiet muttering coming from the group.]
It's okay, Hazel. My trainer went away too but New Trainer always takes good care of me. She even shares her lunches.
I-I know...
Just think though, now we can play all the time. I know we're sad, but that will be fun, right?
Now is not the time to be talking about playing, Tricia. Have some tact.
Okay, okay...
W-... where is Mr. Trainer's daughter, a-anyway? She just left after seeing the letter...
Up on the roof. Sunny is with her, so she will be fine... Probably. Come, we should go collect the others. She... will come down when she's ready.

[Tricia the Manectric, Hazel the Pikachu, Claudy the Noctowl]

i didnt think of that but maybe i'll give it a try
though i guess people might be a little weirded out by a box making ugly crying sounds
[ text ]
And hell, if they don't, fuck them. It's your time, not theirs. A box is a great asset; it separates you from the battlefield. You'll be safe and happy in there.
[ He hoped. Snake was being a bit generous; if he had heard Heather crying from inside a box, he would definitely go and check on her, give her a big hug. She was his weird-sort-of-niece. The idea that she was suffering out in Mahogany without him made him feel... pretty awful. But he had to put his own feelings aside and take care of her. David knew that he and Heather were alike, and never wanted to hear a bunch of apologies. Apologies never changed anything... So Snake would joke with her as he always did to help her see that she'd be all right. ]

[And it's best when it can be shared with someone else.]
i might have to bust it out again then haha
though there's still some bad stuff that can happen when you're in one
like getting
picked up with the trash
[YEAH GUESS WHO FOUND OUT EARLIER WHAT HENRY WAS DOING WHEN HE GOT KIDNAPPED BY A GARBAGE TRUCK. AND WHOSE ADVICE HE WAS FOLLOWING WHEN IT HAPPENED.]
[ text ]
But of course not. This was always his luck when he went on missions, except he would be transported to useful areas... Not a dump. ]
That was really weird and wasn't supposed to happen. I didn't even know there were any garbage trucks in Johto.
I thought he'd have the sense to come out of the box once the smell of trash came near... But I guess he's more naive than I thought.
[ text ]
he's henry
you kind of have to include a common sense clause when you give him ideas
[Henry isn't STUPID but he does seem to be that special brand of dumb where you can expertly analyze literature at the drop of a hat but will then wander around LOOKING for your hat without realizing that you're wearing it.]
[ text ]
The kid's all right, though? Not thoroughly traumatized by being thrown around in a dump truck? How'd he get out of there, anyway?
[ text ]
henry doesn't operate on the same level as most other people
but yeah he's okay and he actually didn't get out
he was brought all the way to the region-wide dump in goldenrod and i had to go get him
I'M KIND OF SURPRISED HE DIDN'T DIE
[ text ]
Even the most dangerous thing here is basically cushioned, at least by my standards.
[ text ]
well yeah
by mine too, if we're going to get technical about it
getting ambushed in the wild by some giant pokemon is scary but they're still just animals when you get right down to it
[Maybe not the ghosts though. She REALLY doesn't like the ghosts.]
and that's probably the biggest danger i can think of in this place[ text ]
But that's not really a problem if you a Flying-Type or anything really; your team can just get you out of any sticky situation. No one can starve to death here if they have Pokémon.
[ text ]
yeah you have to be resourceful sometimes but i can count the times i've been genuinely scared for my life on one hand[... And about half of those had come from things... that didn't belong to THIS world.]
[ text ]
Although probably all with three fingers.
[ That recent Gekko rampage that he and Ocelot managed to stop... Though that wasn't actually too scary for Snake. The scariest things that happened to him were losing Otacon the previous time. Two and three tied together with Liquid being the one to take Otacon away from him. It was like... a thorough betrayal. Even if Snake was probably wrong to not be understanding, it still hurt him inside. Otacon was his best friend, and to have them no longer talking anymore... Snake stopped his texting for a moment, thinking back. His heart throbbed a bit. There was a new Otacon here, and they were pals, but... That pain still lingered. After that, there wasn't anything that could scare him here. The worst had come to pass. ]
Enemies came here and I wasn't even scared of them. They were more annoying than anything. I guess because I knew that their options for hurting others was pretty much at zero. I didn't need to worry.
[ text ]
yeah
even when my old ghosts showed up here
i wasn't scared. they couldn't hurt me
i was just ANGRY
[ text ]
Some people you talk to just set you off. No controlling it either. They could be living innocently, and just the sight of them
[ Snake has to pause for a moment. He's getting a bit too miffed at the memories. He thinks on something else. ]
Ever thought of going adventuring again?
[ text ]
you mean just hit the road and travel?
the thought's occurred to me yeah
it'd be easier for sure... with just a couple people
and i do kinda miss it
[ text ]
Or I'll just see you on the road.
[ text ]
thanks
i'll keep you guys in mind, sure wouldn't say no to seeing you again in general
but i think maybe henry and i ought to go it alone for a bit
[Well, with Crow, but he'd sort of been taken under Harry's wing too.]
[ text ]
[ text ]
yeah
thanks for talking to me, dave
