044. [Video/Action for Goldenrod]

_{[Like so many transmissions today, this one opens up with the camera aimed straight up at the velvety-gray sky, with dry little flakes of snow drifting down. It also cuts in about halfway through a sentence--]}

--ime to get some winter gear... Hey, network. Please enjoy five minutes of my dog being a spaz.

_{[It swivels down to focus on the plaza-- looks like Heather's walking back to the hotel from work and is finally getting a chance to enjoy the flurries (though she's c-c-c-cold. The whole sleeveless routine won't work for too much longer...). The flagstones are dusted with snow, and-- ... as promised, Cujo is being a spaz.]}

[The orange-colored pup is lying on his side in the snow and just sort of... wriggling in place, snorfling around in the MAGICAL WHITE STUFF THAT IS FALLING FROM THE SKY. After a few seconds or two he suddenly surges upright, butt in the air and ears standing straight up. He stares, glassy-eyed, at the camera for a few seconds, and then lets out an explosive snort and goes tearing off in a random direction.]

['Zilla the toddler Totodile appears on the screen then, slipping and sliding after him through the snow at a laughably slower pace-- changing direction a few times as Cujo goes rocketing past in the opposite direction. Eventually he gives up and comes waddling back to Heather with a frustrated gargle. She laughs.]

Maybe when you get longer legs, buddy-- hey, let's see how Arty likes the snow. Ya like the snow, Arty?

_{[The camera turns and shows... well, this.]}

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.....

.... I think she likes it.

--!! Wh-- ... _{[She looks at the coat. Then looks at him and puts her hands on her hips.]} Sora. If you catch a cold, you'll be stuck in the Center even longer.

_{[She does step outside, though, but she's giving him that DISAPPROVING GROWNUP GLARE.]}

Hm... I think there's a restaurant a few blocks from here that has Italian-ish stuff-- ... er. _{[He might not know what that is, so she quickly amends.]} Pasta and pizza and stuff like that, with huge portions. Wanna go there?

I'm too hardcore to get a cold!

[oh yeah, he's on to her-- besides, he's more likely to pick up a cold or some other virus cooped up in the pokécenter than he is out in the snow. he grins, though, following her out the door.]

A big bowl of spaghetti sounds perfect. Let's go!

_{[OKAY, OKAY, she can recognize her own logic being used back at her. She rolls her eyes a little and raises her hands.]}

Okay, but if you start coughing all over the nurses and they get mad, don't blame me!

Anyway, restaurant's this way.

_{[She jerks her thumb down the street and starts walking. A big bowl of spaghetti sounded pretty good to her, too.]}

I'll be sure to aim for the scarier nurses if it comes to that, then.

[he'll follow along then, keeping up a steady pace with her. lord, who knows where Puddles and Cujo ran off to... hopefully they're still running up and down the street like madmen.]

Aim for that one really big guy. He freaks me out. _{[Of course, nurses kind of freaked Heather out in general, but... just.... <8( Dude.]

[Heather is faithful that Cujo will eventually find his way back-- Goldenrod is a pretty safe city, all things considered, so she's not too worried. If he gets too lost, she can always send Arty out to find him. ... Or Claudy. Arty would just plop in the snow and hate the world.]

[The restaurant is pretty big-- Goldenrod is just FULL of fancy places like this. Much better than the tiny joints around Violet.]

[Heather holds the door for Sora to go in first, since he's the coatless one.]}

After you, shorty.

... Him? I don't think it's possible for him to get infected with anything-- I mean, he's like five times the size I am!

[famous last words, Sora-- but he's just staring around the restaurant in awe. not even the little eateries in Traverse Town were this gigantic and fancy. he's also pretty sure there's more people in here than there are on Destiny Islands in its entirety.]

_{[She thinks back to that dream... and just shudders.]

[... But then smiles when she notices Sora's reaction.]}

Pretty swanky, huh?

S'probably a little expensive, but... hey. First snow's a reason for celebration.

_{[AND she's got more than enough money to pay their way. Hint hint, nudge nudge.]}

Nothing wrong with going all out once in a while. So get whatever you want, okay?

[it smells like garlic and pasta and delicious in here-- Sora takes in a deeeeeeep breath, and... o-ow.]

_{[She ruffles his hair a little bit to get the snow off of it as a waiter comes over to seat them. He gives them a bit of a dubious look on account of their lack of fancy dress, but... bah! Those weird Otherworlders. >8/]}

[clearly they're too hardcore for proper dress-- though, Sora would probably look pretty dashing in a suit. maybe some other time.]

[once they're seated, Sora looks around, still in awe, then relaxes in his chair-- and then he is surprised to experience another basic Italian restaurant tradition:]

Wait, the loaf of bread is seriously for free?

_{[He WOULD look pretty good in a suit. Maybe if someone eventually got married here in Johto or something.]

[Heather grins impishly at him. It's fun watching his reactions.]}

You haven't been to many restaurants, have ya?

Nothing like this, anyway! There are a bunch of nice restaurants back home, but they're all seafood.

[he's still looking at that loaf of bread in the basket like he's still unsure about it being free. bread and pasta are a lot harder to get a hold of when you live on a tiny tropical island compared to other places, so it's somewhat of a luxury for him.]

Heh, there's a lot of seafood where I come from, too.

C'mon, have some of the bread! It's not gonna bitecha.

[... he'll just tear that loaf in half and go to town, then. holy cow not even the sandwiches he'd been indulging in since arriving in Johto compare.]

Oh! Um... Maine, right? With the weirdos.

_{[She takes the other half for herself. She'd had lunch that day, but that was quite awhile ago.]}

In addition to weirdos, we also have lots of lobster.

Well, lobsters are pretty weird, too. Just to keep with the general atmosphere of Maine, right?

[THIS BREAD IS SO DELICIOUS OMG--]

We mostly eat fish back home, though. And lots of coconuts.

Yeeeah, that's a pretty good way of lookin' at it.

_{[MAINE: STATE OF WEIRDOS. The south wasn't the only place with creepy religious hillbillies.]}

We've got everything more or less everywhere in my world, but the New England area in general is famous for its seafood.

I like sweet stuff, too! Coconut's my favorite.

[surprise, surprise right?-- Sora's going to tear through his half of breadloaf, and... well, he'll be completely startled when the waiter brings them another sometime after ordering. WHAT IS THIS TOMFOOLERY?]

_{[And sheee'll just be grinning like a fiend at his surprise over the bread. THIS PLACE IS AN INFINITE BREAD MACHINE, SORA. WHAT WILL YOU DO.]}

You can have the chocolate I borrowed from the inn, then! It's all in my jacket.

[emphasis on the "borrowed." and dude, Aladdin wouldn't even know what the heck to do with himself if he found himself in an infinite bread machine. Sora, however? he sort of has a better idea... he's probably going to hurt himself slowly trying to get through it all.]

_{[She smirks at him.]}

Next time, try to be a little more sneaky. That receptionist was onto you.

_{[MOAR BREAD, ALL THE TIME, GET SOME. Luckily, the waiter's coming over to take their orders at last. Heather makes an 'after you' gesture to Sora.]}

Hey, I was totally sneaky! The receptionist was just mad about something else. She, uh... her shift was extended or something. Yeah, that's it.

[Sora is going to play that off and order himself a huuuuge bowl of spaghetti, because obviously when you're stuffing yourself with bread the logical thing to do is order more carbs.]

Sure, kiddo. SURE.
