_{[A short while after the singing wild Pokemon and egg presents had died down, a rather unfortunate discovery was made upon dialing a number she'd been meaning to dial ever since Claudia Wolf and Kaito Kuroba had disappeared from Johto.]

[Already on the road, the weather's mild enough (even with the wind picking up) that Heather decided that was pretty much a good time to pocket her Valentine's Day present and just head off for a walk. Because lord knows, she needs one.]

[It's not the first time Johto has given everyone the gift of a precious little egg, but it is the first time that Heather's found herself resenting it.]

[The video feed pops on, focused in on a tiny, pale yellow little egg hardly bigger than a chicken's, nestled in the palm of Heather's hand as dry grass goes past underfoot.]}

It would be so easy to just... crush it.

[He walks over and puts his hand on her shoulder.]

_{[Screw this hand-on-the-shoulder business, she's just going to throw her arms around him and squeeze tight. Kaito's gone. Claudia's gone. Now Rise is gone too. Who the hell knows how many other people are gonna go before this is over? If it's ever over at all?]

[Cooper? Ironhide? Ken and Miles? Sora? Otacon and Liquid?]

[What if they wake up in the morning and there's two instead of three? What if all that's left of one of them is an empty sleeping bag and some confused and frightened Pokemon?]

[She lets out a hoarse SOB.]}

[Harry wraps his arms around her. Returning the hug just as much.]

I feel like I just got you back.

_{[She knows that doesn't matter, that by rights she never was supposed to get him back in the first place, but...]}

I know.

[He knows this feeling all to well.]

And now it's like... every second I look away is a second you could go.

Or Henry.

You can't focus on that though.

How can I NOT focus on it?!

Look at the other side of it. Every second we're here is one more then we should have had.

_{[Well... yes, that's true...]}

_{[It sounds so simple and stupid and selfish, but... she can't help it.]}

But but you have to focus on the moments we have together, rather then the ones we might not have.

You didn't get to come to my high school graduation.

You won't get to see me go to college, or yell at me for totaling your car, or ... or I don't know!

[He sighs and just hugs her tighter.]

_{[And she hugs back, almost like she's worried that if she loosens up, he'll just... fade into nothing right there in her arms.]}

[Hugs forever.]

_{[She'd reply to that... and she was even starting to.]

[But a different sound winds up coming out-- it's not that hideous sob from before. Just a sustained stream of muffled weeping. Between the anger and the worry and the HURT there's just nothing else she can do at this point.]

[It's either hug her father or smash that egg.]

[The egg is lucky that she's picking the first choice.]}

[She doesn't need to, he'll just hug her tight. She's all grown up, but she's still his little girl. And he hates to see her hurting like this.]
