_{[A short while after the singing wild Pokemon and egg presents had died down, a rather unfortunate discovery was made upon dialing a number she'd been meaning to dial ever since Claudia Wolf and Kaito Kuroba had disappeared from Johto.]

[Already on the road, the weather's mild enough (even with the wind picking up) that Heather decided that was pretty much a good time to pocket her Valentine's Day present and just head off for a walk. Because lord knows, she needs one.]

[It's not the first time Johto has given everyone the gift of a precious little egg, but it is the first time that Heather's found herself resenting it.]

[The video feed pops on, focused in on a tiny, pale yellow little egg hardly bigger than a chicken's, nestled in the palm of Heather's hand as dry grass goes past underfoot.]}

It would be so easy to just... crush it.

[[said very softly, tone very worried.]]

...It's always easier to lash out against something. But just because it's simple doesn't make it a good idea.

... And that would accomplish what?

... They're harder than they look.

[But okay, he's going to attempt to make her smile here. He's been so happy recently, he doesn't want Heather to be so down. Maybe this anecdote about punching Butt-Head in the face will cheer her up.]

I punched a dude today for trying to eat one.

Actually, no, okay, I punched him for calling me a wuss, but it was an added bonus that he had been trying very intently to crack open a Pokémon egg. Seriously, who does that?

Why would you want to do that?

Those things are harder to break than they look.

[He won't say anything about how breaking it wouldn't help or isn't the answer to whatever may have happened to prompt this, because that would be too hypocritical even for him.]

[Crow has been in a fairly good mood for the past few days -- better than before the whole singing Pokémon swarm thing happened, anyway -- but that changes the moment the sees the new video feed from Heather.]

... You're not smiling.

[He's frowning, but his tone definitely gives away his worry.]

[welp, Naoto sounds a little disturbed.]

Why would you even think of it?

[Have one totally terrified person staring at you.]

Why would you want to do something like that?

Are you sure you wanna do that? I mean you'll get yolk under your nails and if there's something alive in there then it's gonna stink when you crack into it.

[He's been in a damn good mood for a few days now, and that barely dampens as he watches the feed. He watches for a little longer before speaking, popping his neck audibly in a bid to get comfortable and as somewhat of an indication the channel is open.]

Go ahead Litte One, break it... But we both know if was going to, would have done it aleady.

[There's no hint of tease in his voice, just contentment that he's right in his assumption.]

But you won't.

[She says very softly. She's lost some ones she cared for this month too.]

[It takes a while for Lisa to respond to this. Even if it was posted for the whole network, it's clear that the poor girl's going through something personal. Still, it seemed...wrong to just stay quiet after seeing Heather smiling just days before, and after the other had helped her so much. Even so, she's pretty tentative, and her reply is simple.]

Alessa...

[Her voice is soft, and it goes unsaid that Heather doesn't have to explain if she doesn't want to. Lisa's just there, as she always had been.]

Is...something up?

[Because seriously, how could Heather not be in a good mood from all that singing?]

[Originally, he wasn't going to answer this. He's met Heather the barest handful of times, not nearly enough to know her well; all he knows of her is that she's spunky, energetic, a little rough around the edges--a bit like Yuffie--with an easy smile. A blur of pale colors, freckles and elbows and knees.

And yet he saw this, and it reminded him strongly of a time, a few months ago, when he'd felt so utterly hopeless and angry, angry beyond reckoning, that he'd been willing to tear down everything, and everyone, that got in his way, even the ones closest.

(Especially the ones closest.)

That, and Lightning's mourning at least one of the same people, so he has a hint of what's ailing Heather, if only from moving in the same spaces as her for over fourteen months.

So he switches on the feed. It's possible that Heather might not even recognize the voice.]

It gets old, feeling like you're being cosmically mocked.

[His voice is a bit toneless, but that's generally par for the course with him; it's pretty clear there's an edge of warmth running along his words, though. It's rare that Leon empathizes so clearly.]

Why would you want to?

Do it.

[And Harry leans against a rock. A little way away. There is a Togepi on his shoulder. They were out for a walk as well.]

Lost in thought?

Yes, it would be.

[Ziva understands the feeling, the frustration. Her friends are gone too, after all. One of them she knows for sure just left Johto to die, unless by some miracle things were changed.

Still doesn't mean Ziva will ever see her again, but.]

Would you feel better if you did so?

You wanna take your anger out on something, take it out on something that can fight back.

And then what, Heather?

[Ken is so completely serious right now. He's not sympathetic, because he's been there and sympathy doesn't ease it.]

... It would be, wouldn't it? [And it's tempting, isn't it Heather? But he doesn't have much sympathy for her. People disappear; and sometimes people disappear one after another. But he doesn't have sympathy for this sort of reaction to that loss.]

And it would be terribly human - terribly pathetic - of you to take out whatever anger you're feeling on the life of something defenseless and uninvolved.

[Yukiko's a little concerned for her, but her voice is soft when she speaks.]

It would be a little unfair to deny it the chance to live, don't you think?

What did it ever do to you?

[He could be joking, but he isn't. He might be a bit dense sometimes, but he knows Heather's been having a hard time.]

It would, wouldn't it? [No, he doesn't know more people left. Vanitas thinks she's still dealing with... what she was the last time they spoke.]
