114. Fourth Wall Post [VIDEO/ACTION FOR ANYWHERE]

.... Yeah.
Yeah, you're in the complete wrong region.
Mount Moon's in Kanto.
[Heather huffs out a sigh and takes hold of Cujo's mane as the wayward Grey and his weird spacedog head back to their spaceship, which had landed conveniently on top of one of the Pokemon Centers, barely even remarkable in the middle of all the other chaos that's happening.]
Man, at this point, the only thing that could surprise me on weekends like this are things staying normal.
action;
It's... I could probably explain some of it.
In essence, it reached a point where I could no longer remain loyal to her. Envy... wasn't so lucky. I can't blame him for that, not now.
action;
I know how that is.
[She's been there.]
action;
He doesn't know her at all, of course, so he's going to take what she says at face value. She must have something in common with Envy on a surface level at the very least, after all.]
It was always my plan to take him with me. I'm not the sort of person to leave people behind if I can avoid it.
I'm a pretty selfish guy but that doesn't mean I like seeing people dying or getting hurt. Especially if it's because of me.
action;
[Which is why she lifts a hand.]
Look-- it's okay. You don't have to justify yourself to me.
I've known Envy for awhile. He's my friend. And I care about him. A lot.
But this thing-- this thing you guys have both described to me-- I get it. And I get you.
... I had to leave someone behind once.
Behind with someone who used us both.
I couldn't get her out.
And it came back to bite me, too.
So I'm not taking sides in your thing with Envy, even though I'd have his back in anything. Because I've been in your shoes and I know how that shit is a no-win situation.
action;
Yeah. I wouldn't expect you to. And I don't need it either, particularly.
It's an all around rotten situation to be in. There's no winner, except for maybe the person you've escaped from who is free to manipulate the person you couldn't save.
action;
... Yeah.
Those people are always the winners, aren't they.
[A sour, bitter note enters her voice as she speaks.]
action;
And then people like us are the ones who are left wondering if it's possible to save the people we were forced to leave behind.
In my case, I blamed Envy for a long time. I probably would have continued to blame him for something that was her doing had I not come here and found him living here.
action;
It sounds like you guys have done some patching up, then?
action;
He's lived for a long time but he's never exactly lived a normal life.]
Can't tell you where it's going, but we certainly have started down some road to returning to what we used to be.
action;
That's good.
[And frankly she's proud of Envy for allowing it. ... It's further than she got with Claudia, when Claudia was here. And as much as she hates to admit it, the blame for that lies mostly with her.]
action;
Yeah. I think so, too.
action;
Whatever you do, don't waste it or let it sour.
You might not get it back.
action;
I'm not going to lose him again.
action;
Hang onto it.
action;
[Because something happened. He's not oblivious. They have similar backgrounds. It was clearly something major. Probably multiple things.]
I'm lousy at talking about this sort of thing, but I'll try, yeah?
action;
[... But then, you know what? She's been through these weekends before. After they're over, the memories are there but the details always go fuzzy.]
[There's no harm in being honest today. He might remember that she told him something, but he probably won't remember what it was.]
I had a friend once. When I escaped my master-- [My monster.]-- it set its sights on her.
And twenty-four years later, my friend and I met again. But she wasn't my friend anymore.
That thing had turned her into my enemy.
Because I didn't get her out.
action;
That...
[Is so accurate to his own situation he doesn't even know where to start.]
And by then, it was too late to save her?
action;
[Still, the simmering bitterness in her voice can't be mistaken for anything but honest when she replies:]
It was too late for me to even want to save her.
