033. [Video] (action for Camp Otacon)
[When the camera comes on, Heather's lying on her back on her sleeping bag with Cujo draped over her stomach and a sulky expression on her face. The bandage formerly tied over her eye (looking distinctly nasty now) is crumpled off to the side and in its place is a hot compress, which she's holding gently to the wounded area with one hand. She seems to be holding the PokeGear up above her with the other. Least flattering Myspace-shot ever.]
So-- how long do I have to keep this thing on?
[She's talking to somebody off-camera and judging by the ever-so-patient tone of the reply she gets, which is sort of indistinct but along the lines of 'Until I say you can take it off', that somebody is Otacon.]
But Haaaaaal.
[There is no reply.]
..... Fine, fine...
I'll just stay here and stew in my misery.
[There's a laugh from off the screen and another indistinct reply that is apparently amused at Heather's overdramatic whining and not sympathetic like she'd been hoping. So Heather makes a pouty face and turns her head just slightly so that she can stick her tongue out in his general direction before looking back to the camera.]
His Dictatorship over there is reveling in his regime of oppression and I'm bored.
Someone please distract me.
[SHE'D EVEN WELCOME KNOCK-KNOCK JOKES. THAT IS HOW LOW SHE HAS SUNK.]

[Kisame grins. He'd be bored to death too. ...except he already is.]
I know, I know... I'm still allowed to whine about it, though. This is a free country! ... I think.
[As a wanted criminal, she probably shouldn't be making claims like that, but OH WELL.]
That depends on what you think counts as free, doesn't it?
[T-THUMBS UP!]
[The Quagsire does her best to return the thumbs up. "Siiire!"]
It'd be kind of a bummer to be in jail.
[But that said, she's already had a couple of close calls, sooo... yeah. She's kind of stuck in camp for the moment. That, and her guilt does weigh on her a little more heavily than she lets on. At least since she found out that one of her crimes was beating the living daylights out of Phoenix Wright.]
The interrogation would be the worst part, at least where I come from.
[Of course, he's got a "kill on sight" order on his head so he doesn't really worry about that.]
[Heather doesn't have much faith in the law as a general rule-- it operates about how you'd expect it to in her own world. That is to say, generally corrupt, often ineffective, and usually way too quick to jump on the victims when it comes to blame.]
[Although it probably didn't help that she didn't exactly have the greatest rep with the police force when she was a little younger. Oh, Heather. You little shoplifter, you.]
[Nor does Kisame, but of course, he grew up in a village where the initiation into their armed forces was "here, kill your friend in a fight to the death"]
[Heather's been through a lot, but never an interrogation. She's kind of grateful. Although given her determination and stubbornness, she'd probably hold up better than most would.]
But... it's not that I don't remember what was happening... I just... wasn't seeing anything that was real.
[She remembers beating the crap out of things (and being pretty badly beaten herself), but... she never once saw the real faces of the people she was attacking.]
The genjutsu those ghosts put us through was a bad one. It's a good thing I wasn't near the town, or someone would have died.
[There's no doubt in his mind that he would have killed people had he been in Violet at the time.]
.... Yeah.
... I was kinda worried I might have.
But if I had, they'd have said something about it, right?
[The thought that the monsters she'd killed may actually have been people is something that had occurred to her before she'd ever come to Johto and it had haunted her ever since. Being reminded of it so strongly here was not a welcome experience.]
It makes me wonder how badly they would react to actual murder, though.
[He considers himself lucky he realized it was genjutsu so quickly. What he saw was bad enough without accidentally attacking his closest ally.]
[Heather might have been a bit morally gray on some subjects but murder is fairly black and white for the most part... it's not that she's never killed anyone before... or that she necessarily views the lives she HAS taken as unjustified... but the thought of accidentally murdering innocent people in a fit of hysteria chills her to the bone.]
[Kisame, of course, accepts that death is a suitable punishment for a lot more things than just murder but this place is very different on the punishment scale.]
I guess they'd probably try to lock the person up.
[It was what they did in her world, after all-- although Heather wasn't so sure she was a fan of it. She was a believer in an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth-- when she'd gone after Claudia on that horrible, rainy night, it hadn't been because she wanted to turn her in and see her rot in a jail cell. It had been because she'd wanted her dead. But then, that wasn't something she was proud of feeling, even if she couldn't change it.]
[Of course, ninja were very adept at getting out of tricky situation. Imprisoning one was usually more work than it was worth.]
[Asked casually but he's still pretty serious.]
The law's surprisingly useless there sometimes, so... some things you kinda have to take into your own hands.
[Maybe they would have been able to get Claudia convicted, with Douglas' testimony, but no one would ever believe what had really happened. And that was even if they were able to get something done at all. The cult had a way of making unwanted actions disappear. It was why they'd never been caught at what they did.]
[Said heavily, like he has personal experience.]
... Yeah, I think that's universal.
[Changing the subject is go] Shouldn't you take that off now? If they're left on too long, they do more harm than good.
[The camera flails around a bit as she sits up, peeling the cloth off of her face.]
[Turns out it had been hiding a pretty nasty combination bruise-and-scrapes that looked ... well, moderately-healing. It's been doing better since Otacon saved the day with his first-aid supplies.]
Eesh....
Not bad. I've seen more impressive, but not bad at all.
