Really though, maybe you two should do some swimming lessons together. Then he can be near you in case something does go wrong, and he'll see that you're capable of doing these things. Showing what you know and picking up some tips from a water type like him might put his mind at ease.

Well theoretically if we're both on land at the same time, he should be able to see when I'm moving to avoid stepping in a puddle and not feel like he needs to pick me up to make sure I avoid it.
