If you spliced Grumpy Cat with a wolverine, you might get something closely resembling Arty. This impressive living scarf is a sourpuss made of pointy ends and salt. Although her species is known for being adorable, the only time Arty makes any effort to look endearing is in front of someone who has food that she wants, and even that act goes out the window once they catch on.
Part of Arty's unsavory attitude has to do with the unorthodox way she joined Heather's team. Being one of the many wild Pokemon sent swarming by an unfortunate Sweet Scent accident on Route 29 immediately after the first of the wayward world-travelers began to appear, the wild Sentret who would one day come to be Arty was not even remotely expecting to have a human being chase her down and physically wrestle her into a Pokeball. Which is literally what happened because Heather had just arrived in Johto and hadn't bothered to read up on the REAL way you were supposed to catch Pokemon. To add insult to injury, Arty's nickname was borne entirely of Heather expressing her displeasure at the whole situation by being as shitty and uncreative as possible ('Raccoon Thing' --> 'R.T.' --> 'Arty'. Yeah, I know).
Arty is pretty much like the oldest child who had to suffer through all the awful parenting mistakes that first-time moms make, and came out of it with a worldview of unflappable surliness. Needless to say, Heather is a much better trainer now than she was when she originally caught Arty, but the Furret's disposition remains antisocial. She tolerates her trainer and team-mates (often grudgingly), but mostly prefers to be left alone.
Though high-leveled and quite fierce in battle, Arty doesn't often join the training roster and usually only shows up in Heather's battle lineups to fill a gap with her versatile movesets-- she'd much rather spend her time lounging around near a heater. That doesn't mean the claws won't come out by her own volition, though... Ask the unfortunate would-be thieves who broke into Heather's hotel room that one time. They'll remember.
