CHERYL | ESPEON
Level: 34

Ability: Synchronize (When a Pokémon with Synchronize is burned, paralyzed, or poisoned by another Pokémon, that Pokémon will be inflicted with the same status condition..)
What is an Eevee? Fox? Rabbit? Owl? Bag? We just don't know.
The whole team loves Cheryl. Like, to itty bitty pieces. And how could anyone not? She's adorable! Even as an Eevee, her physical 'defect'-- a set of floppy lop ears instead of the perky ones the species is known for-- was adorable! Even Arty is marginally less grumpy towards her than anyone else. Likewise with Cleo, although that admittedly might have something to do with the fact that the slightest act of meanness towards the Cheryl is a surefire way to get virtually excommunicated by every other Pokemon on Heather's roster, and Cleo's not that dedicated to being a dick.
With all the attention and pampering, it would have been easy and even expected for Cheryl to grow up into a spoiled brat. But against all the odds, aside from a very tiny and virtually always-harmless mischievous streak, the Eevee-turned-Espeon is pretty much sweetness incarnate. Cheryl is particularly close to Claudy (who raised her as if she were her own) and Alessa, with whom Cheryl acts as both an eternally-patient little sister as well as a bit of a grounding force when Alessa gets too bitter or stressed. It's not uncommon for team-mates to go to Cheryl for advice or to vent, since while the Espeon is always transparent about being too inexperienced in most matters, her emotional intelligence is off the charts and no one is better at solving disputes or smoothing out ruffled egos.
Despite being on the team for years, Cheryl showed no sign of evolving until one quiet August morning, at the conclusion of a very emotional video monologue from Heather regarding her complicated, upsetting history with her childhood friend turned enemy, Claudia Wolf. This had, on several occasions, made Heather a little concerned-- she's read up on happiness-based Eeveelutions, after all, and Cheryl was rarely anything but happy! The truth was, Cheryl could have evolved any time she wanted. But, serenely, she waited until that very moment, just as the sun came up over the hills. Why? Who knows. Maybe she wanted Heather to be ready first.
As for her backstory, out of all the Pokemon Heather's ever received, the story of Cheryl joining the team is probably the weirdest. It all began when Heather was making her way to Goldenrod City alone, in the middle of a horrendous rainstorm. Little did she know, an acquaintance with an abundance of Eevee eggs he needed to get rid of had been intending to give one to her-- but after failing to find her in person before she left, settled for stuffing one of the eggs into her bag and promptly forgot about it. When she finally got to the Goldenrod hotel and began to investigate the contents of her larger bag for the first time in several days for water damage... she discovered (after first removing Claudy) a tiny newborn Eevee, surrounded by crushed eggshells.
Not knowing what had transpired before her departure from Violent, Heather arrived at the only logical conclusion: her owl had somehow immaculately conceived a fox.
The fact that Claudy immediately took the baby Cheryl under her wing did nothing to clear up the confusion.
Heather still has no idea what really happened.
