Special Pokemon eggs magically ending up among trainers' possessions is a longstanding holiday tradition. The very first time this happened, it was on a cold, dark Christmas Eve and the egg bequeathed to Heather wound up hatching into the frighteningly-relevant species known as Absol. Was Heather a little freaked-out at how well it fit? Yes. Yes, she was.
Alessa, named for obvious reasons, was raised with loving care and is fiercely bonded to her trainer. ... Maybe even a little too bonded. Normal and relaxed with Heather but standoffish and cold with strangers, Alessa is the very definition of a "one person" Pokemon. Although she never faced the hardship and superstition that her wild brethren do, her 'disaster radar' is hyper-sensitive and seems to have no "off" switch to speak of. Anyone not proven through time and trial to be safe is considered a threat to Alessa and her trainer alike, and she lives by the philosophy of 'Expect the worst, that way you'll never be disappointed'. Needless to say, Heather mostly abstains from taking Alessa anywhere she knows there will be a lot of people, because nothing chills the atmosphere of a party like a Pokemon associated with impending doom glaring balefully at anyone who looks in your direction.
Not that it isn't possible (with effort) to gain a little of her trust-- people/Pokemon who grow close to Heather are usually grudgingly accepted if they successfully refrain from doing any Bad Friend Things for a long enough period of time. But if one of said close people should happen to break that trust? Oh, honey. You got a big storm comin'. It's been five years and Alessa still hasn't forgiven Godzilla for the Chomp Incident.
Of course, every cloud has a silver lining-- any time Heather has to travel alone in iffier areas, Alessa invariably accompanies her. She may not be as big as Cujo, but her imposing aesthetic and predictive instincts-- no matter misfire-y-- allow her to traverse even the shadiest neighborhoods unscathed. Alessa would do just about anything for Heather-- and vice versa. The tight bond between them even allowed Alessa to be the first of Heather's Pokemon to achieve Mega Evolution!
